Question Regarding 3.30

hey, im just moving over from xbox to ps3 and i want to jailbreak my ps3 so i can install these pkg's i keep seeing going around.

i just bought my ps3 slim and it came with firmware 3.30. is there any way i can go online with 3.30 without updating? (i dont want to get 3.55 until this whole pkg signing is sorted out)

i have searched for answers on several sites, but some forum members say it does work while others say it doesn't. this site seems the most reliable so far, so i figured i would post here.

Find a official 3.41 update (they are around just look)
put it on a usb stick.

ohh and if you want to jailbreak the old way (with a DEV board)
you need to be on 3.41 fw.
i mean, you really only need to be jailbreaking the old way if you are interested in Backups.
really the new jailbreak way is seeing advancements everyday.
So if you just want emu's,ftp,etc. you could go to the new jailbreak way
(a modified pup you flash just like any other OFW)

Edit: after re-reading, i see you want to access psn
As of right now, the only way to get on psn, is on 3.55 fw
ive read GEO's MFW can get online though!
and you can enjoy all the nice HB.
but you better beleive sony will patch this very soon..

no, you cannot go online with 3.30, online 3.55
you can Jailbreak 3.41 to played backed-up games
atm 3.55 CFW can only play Direct boot games.
if you want to play all games on CFW you will have to wait until a CFW with syscall is released

i only have 3 games that i want backed up - thats not my main concern.

does direct boot mean a game thats enabled so it doesnt require a disc in the bd drive to run? (also, is multiman the pkg i keep seeing that enables this?)

so there is no way to fake a proxy with an extra computer and make my ps3 think that its got the latest firmware while i play call of duty 4 on psn, lol?

okay, if backups not your main concern then i would suggest Geohots 3.55 jailbreak

yes, direct boot is loading with no BD in the drive.

proxy use to work, but not anymore, if you have CoD 4 on disc, then yes, i would suggest Geohots 3.55 JB.
and im pretty sure you can direct boot CoD4 anyway?
like the post before, 3.55 JB is having more and more advancements everyday, i reckon its now safe to go to 3.55 JB.

i have LBP GOTY and Killzone 2 as well, do you know if those support direct boot? (i just tried searching for an accurate list to no avail)

i havent gone to 3.55 as of yet, because i have back-ups that dont do direct boot, so im staying put for now, until i see a little more progress with these backup managers.

its hard to say, ive never tried them sorry.
i tried searching for a list before aswell, i only found a tiny one

so just to clear everything up, 3.41 is the most open jailbreak but you cannot access PSN, but 3.55 is coming closer to being the most open jailbreak.

edit: further, does this mean that if i wanted to downgrade to 3.41, it would be possible with the new CFWs

3.41 is the most open jailbreak BUT, its not the easiest to get on there, you need a Dev board, or certain type of device, you can find tutorials all over this website for devices.
3.55 is coming closer to being very open, and will probably be more open than 3.41 withing a month or two
and no, PSN is not available on 3.41 only 3.55

Right, jailbreaking 3.41 shouldnt be much of a problem. i'm an android freak i have plenty of those sitting around and i have a TI-84 from school haha.

i dont know if you saw my edit a few seconds ago, but do these CFWs mean that downgrading is possible without this brick risk?
