Question of the day: Why do SOME PS3 games work discless when SOME dont?

Supp you know it always wondered to me why do some people like want disc-less support on their ps3 my original thought that they were too cheap to just replace the blu ray drive. (no offense)

So 2 days ago I just ran a game disc-less (Using Open Manager + App Home Game) I support open manager 100% anyways why is that some ps3 games can be played disc-less and some cant?

I kinda find it convenient and I can save some blu-ray miles on my ps3

I don't think it's that people are too cheap to replace the drive. Some people either don't have the money to spend or don't know how to do it and are afraid to make their problem worse by opening their PS3 and making a mistake somewhere.

I was never clear on discless support for PS3's with a working drive. From what I understand it only accesses the drive to check for a disc at the initial startup but after that it powers down. If that's 100% correct then the wear on the drive is negligible. Besides, there's problems running a game discless on many games meaning that DLC doesn't work and there's problems on some games with savegames and trophies. I'm not a trophy hunter, but the savegames are kinda important

Ya I was thinking that too. But there are problems?

I just tried street fighter x tekken and the save/DLC work. BUT I have a working blu-ray drive. I kinda find it convenient.

But why do people have Blu-Ray emu (whatever you call it for multiman)

and open manager can support discless games?

multiMAN supports discless games and probably better than open manager. multiMAN was initially based on Open Manager, but deank has made massive improvements across the board. Grab bdemu2 if you want full support. As far as I know the payloads aren't emulators, but redirections to make your PS3 think your game backup is actually in the BluRay drive. Wow I just read it. So basically Kakaroto took a dump on Hermes saying that it was bad code and etc..etc...

I have multiman for the file manager (only time I use it)

But anyways all of my games work off of Open Manger (New+ Old) and Street Fighter X Tekken works fine discless so I kinda dont think the bdemu2 will make that much of a difference.

I wonder why wont devs work on a solution to make a 100% discless solution.

Like I said that was an old post. He was talking about v3 of Hermes payload. It's on v4 at the moment (pretty sure about that) and found in bdemu2. MultiMAN lets you swap between 2 different payloads and if I'm not mistaken Hermes v4 has the better compatibility for discless. But like I said I don't use that so I'm not 100% sure

ya I just started using it not too long ago. But out of curiosity how long DOES a blu-ray drive last?

(Not sure if people read their ps3 manual) but it says turn your ps3 off after 4hours for break time and something like that.

How do peoples blu-ray drive break down? is it for leaving it on for extended hours I never fully seem to understood that.

I havent read a user manual in well over 10 years so can't help you on that. The break after 4 hours is probably because of related vision problems/headaches/possible seizures that can happen with extended gameplay. I'm not sure exactly how they break. It's either faulty components on some models (The old phats break down at a much higher rate than the slims even with the same amount of use), overheating, dropping of the PS3, or damaged discs that don't spin the way they should and cause stress on the drive's spindle and motor

I always wondered that. My old ps2 still works fine. But I cant play ps1 games on it for some reason they result in disc-read error.

Thinking about playing Max Payne 1 on my ps2. Alot of guys are talking about the new Max Payne 3 and most likely none of them ever beat Max Payne 1 or 2 lol

I think I played some of Max Payne 1 a while back... I think in the beginning somebody shot his wife? Im not really sure lol
