Question About Updating from 3.41 to 3.55
Question About Updating from 3.41 to 3.55 –
05-09-2011,10:24 PM
I am running the hermes payload 4d 3.41(So I dont use a dongle anymore)..I have a bunch of games that were fixed so they would work with 3.41(fixed eboots from Mote as well as others on the 3.41 eboot thread) as well as changing the param to 3.41 or 3.40, as well as changing many sprx files(Depending on the game, some games needed those to be fixed as well) so my question is, I know that going up to 3.55 is the future since even Brink now works with 3.55..if I were to update to 3.55..what would happen to all of my games, is it a major pain in the behind to make them all work with 3.55 because I have many many games(most on external drive, about 10 games on internal drive) I know eventually I will have to upgrade anyway because its always good to upgrade I just don't know how much of a hassle it will be for me to upgrade..would appreciate any information..thanks so much!

You'll need to put the stock eboot and param back in the game folder in their respective locations. Some games require a modded 3.55 eboot though.

So basically I will just have to find all of the original files for each game and put them back in in order to make them work? Would I need any pkg files for any of these games to work or no? Is there a web site or some place here that posted all of the original files to these games? I should have done this a long time ago then I wouldn't have to go through all of this hassle but I Guess mind as well start now

No pkg files are usually needed, but some modded eboots come in an installer pkg. Don't know any websites that have them at the moment.

Oh I see..so I would have to find all of the original files to these games and then put them in the correct location(either on the external or internal drive) then the game would work on 3.55? when I start the game it would start off where I left off..maybe somewhere on this site someone posts the eboot files?

I am guessing you dont have the original games then as it would simply be a case of re-ripping. Google original eboots and voila plenty of links to help you get what you need.
I am in the same boat as you but hanging fire as a new firmware is almost definitely going to come out along with the re-intro of PSN. As time progresses even 3.55 cfw will become problematic in the same way 3.41 is currently.
Brink is only possible due to an oversight in the retail update being only a 3.5 eboot - not all 3.6 games and above games will be so lucky.

Yeah what made me even think about upgrading was because of Brink, but I guess that game is a fluke since it comes with 3.55 pkg file, otherwise I would stay on 3.41..because it seems like it would be a huge hassle to upgrade, having to get all of the eboot files, not only that but some games you needed to change the sprx files too so oh man having to locate them all would be insane..I should have upgraded a long time ago but didnt realize it would be so simple(I used to use a dongle and just recently upgraded to payload 4d so I wouldnt need it anymore) it would be nice to upgrade to 3.55 but it sounds like it would be such a huge struggle getting everything working again not sure if its worth it

If the relevant keys become available then it wont matter if you are on 3.41 or 3.55 - the 3.6 and above eboots will be able to be decrypted as per now (similar to the way M33 5.01 can still be used on PSPs!).
Even if a newer cfw became available, those on 3.55 will be in a similar boat albeit with less eboots than 3.41 requiring replacing with the originals.
The best option is to get the original eboots and start replacing them on a game by game basis then use a backup manager (I use HM1.5) that allows you to use a modified eboot from your external (in a separate folder) whilst keeping the original within the original game directory structure. I think MM has a similar option.

Yeah that is what I am gonna do in the meantime. Its kinda pointless to upgrade for just one game(Brink) someone will make a fix for that game to work on 3.41..in the meantime I will slowly get the original files to the games that I have on my PS3..let me understand what your saying, you mean I can keep the original eboots in one folder but still use the modified ones on my drive so since Im still on 3.41 they will still work, but when I upgrade to 3.55 I can use the original ones? Sorry a newbie at all of this
