Question about going back to legit firmware without getting banned.
Question about going back to legit firmware without getting banned. –

I jailbroke my PS3 back when the very first hack came out. I put an app on my android (the day it was released) and jailbroke it, but really haven't touched it since other than running some minor homebrew so I'm assuming it is still running 3.41.
Anyway, I want to figure out what the best way of updating to the newest version of the official firmware. Should I just format my drive? I don't care about saves, games, apps, anything on it at the moment. I unplugged the internet before I jailbroke it and haven't connected it since so it has never been online jailbroken, and I want to make sure when I log on to PSN to download the newest firmware I have no chance of getting banned.

What about those two files on the flash memory or whatever I keep hearing about? The ones that send sony info every time the console boots up?

Look at it this way:
If someone were to get a modchip for a 360 and go online, they may not necessarily be banned immediately. If they remove it and any trace of it from their system, they would still end up getting banned months down the line in a giant ban wave.
I just don't want that to happen to me.

Reformatting doesn't take care of the flash memory though...
