    Hello

Yet to own a PS3 as been waiting patiently for a mod to come along. Now that day is finally here I will be purchasing my first PS3, but which models if any should I avoid please?

Not sure which route to take, USB dongles vs non dongle mods, whats the pro's and con's please? I'm an experienced soft modder of other consoles, so with a guide in hand, there will be no issues there.

Been reading through this excellent forum for the past few hours now and found that many are having problems with Waninkoko CFW, so if non dongle route recommended I will be going with the Wutangrza CFW, but is this compatible with all models/phat/slim/nand size etc or are there certain models I should try and avoid please?

I will be following tut here...http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/wutan...1-tools-76433/ (Wutangrza CFW using Flukes1 tools)

...but is there a more newb friendly tut somewhere please as that one seems some what summarized.

    Thank you

Slim models seem to be better when it comes to CFW.

only advice i can give you is wait untill a stable CFW is out.

i mean really wait untill rep. users report its working with most games (if not all) and there is no risk in bricking it (fail-safe methode found(recovery menu or what not))

also i would recommend you don't go online with it. as the ps3 might connect to the psn backbone and report what you've been doing.(unless u use a gateway-software that prevents this)

and as off now the only "safe" models are reported to be the slim not the old launch models.

I'd say the sweet spot is a "launch slim".

The first gen of slims that shipped with the 3.0 firmware.

-Factory firmware isn't too high to stop you from downgrading
-You dont have to worry about the 256MB NanD compatibility issues
    -250GB HDD isn't bad.

Fantastic help, thanks all. Think I will go for the launch version slim. I take it this can just be identified via the model number (CECH-20xxA - CECH-21xxA 160GB, CECH-20xxB - CECH-21xxB 250GB) or is there anything else I need to look for please?

I will probably purchase from eBay so will need to ask seller to confirm model. I take it the model number is print at the back of the console somewhere?
