PSP scene veteran confused by PS3 (Same S**t, different day)

Hello, a veteran from the PSP scene here.

I just bought a ps3 on ebay that is on 3.41 with a teensy dongle. When it arrives I plan to update to 3.55 OFW and then 3.55 Kmeaw. I just a few questions before I go ahead and do all this:

1) Is there a recent (or fairly recent) guide to setting up that thing where you can send back-ups to your ps3 from your pc? As I only have a 4gb flash drive and no external harddrive so I will require this to send a 10gb backup to my ps3. But also can you send them straight from your pc to the PS3's interal harddrive with a usb?

2) Also if I have a back-up of a game that requires a firmware higher than 3.55 will the game run anyway? Or do I have to 'spoof' it?

3) I have heard there is a official mandatory update since the PSN attacks. I guess the custom firmware bypasses this somehow? Or will I have to turn off a setting somewhere to prevent auto-updating?

Thank you to anyone who replies. I used to hate dealing with PSP noobs, trying to explain where you put ISOs etc, but I hope someone can help me out.

ftping games to your ps3 is really simple. there are plenty of apps on this site that will do that. OpenPS3FTP ive heard good things about. i used blackb0x before I picked up an external. id recommend picking up one. theyre not too expensive.

2) no and yes. i heard some 3.56 games work with spoofing and others merely need to have some files swapped. for 3.60+ compiled games, the only ones that work have had patches released by the publisher at a lower firmware. the ones that haven't are unplayable for the foreseeable future. read the modding, online, and rebug sections for more detailed explanations.

3) you're fine on 3.55 and below. just make sure you have the auto download feature turned off in xmb.

as a general rule of thumb, its a good idea to read up on threads here, especially when you haven't ran into any problems yet. even when you do, its still a good idea to search for a thread where someone ran into the same problem, which is frequently the case. starting a thread is a last resort for when solutions no longer work or you can't find a thread that answers your question. best regards.

And do you really consider it appropriate to apply such terms to this entire scene ?

Personally I think the entire scene (not just for PS3) would be much healthier if all users would take a brief moment to calm down before they start posting a reply to any post they dislike. I'm sure that doing so would have eliminated many of the 'flame wars' we've seen recently.
