I'm sure the drive is a 2.5" one but is it a SATA one? My Toshiba's HDD is a PATA (parallel ATA, in this case I think one port caries both power and data and SATA has got two ports, one for power one for data (I think)). So make sure the drive is a SATA one (two ports).

if u r using multiman its GAMES, and if its an external hdd it should be formatted FAT32. Bt I think you can swap between FAT and NTFS drive formats from multiMAN.I haven't tried this bt it might work.

oops, I'm sorry. I thought you were talkin abt an internal hdd. I'm terribly sorry. if its a portable ext hdd, it gets both power and data via usb. if its not a portable one, it will most probably have external power input.
