Hello guys, first post here, now that the PS3 has been hacked etc etc, is there a way we can connect our PS3 HDD directly to our computer and search the file system the same way we can via FTP right now? I need this because my PS3 died for the third time(YLOD), and now it won't work anymore, the light goes green, but no video, no sound and won't detect any controller, I would like to recover my saved files.
So, is there a PS3 file manager we can use via Windows? Or can someone make one?

Sorry if this has been posted before, I didn't find anything similar.

No mate. The file system hasn`t been hacked yet AFAIK. Just hang on to your drive and don`t format it.

Idea though...Prob won`t work, but in the 256MB NANDs of the early PS3`s, the firmware is stored on the nand. So maybe, just maybe, if you can find one of these consoles then you could perhaps hack into the drive via FTP if you get Blackbox installed on the 256MB NAND model.

Just an idea, as the firmware is stored on the hard drive on newer consoles (16MB nand) and not on the nand like the earlier models.

I`m prob talking rubbish, someone with greater knowledge will know. I`m a Wii man myself

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion! I've got a friend who has a 256MB NAND model, I will talk to him tomorrow to see if I can try what you said which sounds kinda possible, once I'll try it, I'll let everyone know here if it worked or not.

-Also you said the filesystem hasn't been hacked(AFAYK), but with the tools we have available will it be possible? or the filesystem is another thing that hasn't been touched?

Someone will prob be able to answer better, but to my knowledge, all attempts to decrypt the filesystem or the structure of the hard drive on the PS3 have failed. This is why we are stuck with FTP and Fat32 drives.

Not like the WBFS system on the Wii which has been hacked fully.

It may be possible to develop a PS3FS Manager or something in the future. Who knows?

Maybe making the PS3 understand NTFS might be easier...
