PS3 System Recovery bricking PIC18F4550 Based USB Dev Board
PS3 System Recovery bricking PIC18F4550 Based USB Dev Board –
Just wanted to give a heads up about a possible issue that people could have when triggering the PS3 System Recovery when the PIC18F4550 USB Dev Kit is plugged in on the PS3 Port.
We arent sure what is exactly doing the PS3 that causes this issues, but it kills the hex loaded and the bootloader, making the USB Dev Kit unable to be reprogrammed by USB. The only way to revive these units would be to reflash the USB Dev Kit with the bootloader using a PICKit2 or PICKit3. The bootloader hex is available on their webpage (http://www.pic18fusb.com/).
If you have bricked one of your units and dont have the required hardware to fix it yourself, I would recommend contacting your distributor to see if he can get it reflashed with the correct bootloader.
Could someone with other PIC based solutuions test if they have the same problems? (P3Free/PS3Break?)
Aaah mine isn't working, this may have happened.
I've never managed to get my PS3 jailbreaked with it yet though, what are the signs of a bricked board?
When you insert it on your PC, windows shows a 'USB Not Recognized' and if you click for 2 seconds the button to switch to programming mode, it will still show the message, plus the led wont flash on and off (meaning its on flashing mode)

We figured out how to prevent the corruption and are having patch boards made that require 3 soldering points.
Once we have these on hand 1-2 weeks we will be shipping to resellers to install for you or have then send to you to install if u have soldering skills.
This will be a free items for all current owners of the official PIC18FUSB device
And will be installed on boards Not yet sold
when i booted the PS3, the LED just went off and the PS3 booted into it's normal condition.
i did not boot into the recovery mode.
wenn i stick the PIC18F4550 USB into my computer nothing appears and the LED also doesnt light up.
does this mean that the bootrom is defect? or is it the stick?
You need to press and hold the button for 2 seconds to get into programming mode.
If u programmer it prior with someone elses hex you erased the bootloader and will require it reprogammed.
