That was an example, i really think that somewhere in the box there's a code or something to show the date the ps3 was made.
Knowing the date, we would be 100% sure if its 3.41 or below right?

Hope my question isn't that stupid at all:

I got a fat 40 GB Version and I'm going to buy a 160 GB Slim.
One of these should be updated to 3.50 (in case the 160 GB will be sold with 3.41).

So my question: Which one should be updated? Or: Which one is the right choice for my jailbreak device?

I prefer upgrading the Slim-Version because it got no power switch (I know, it can be added) so the jailbreak is easier to use on the fatty one.

Also there are reports that the new PS3-FTP homebrew doesn't work that good on the slims. So more compability between homebrew and fat ps3?

No there is not. This was discussed a few months ago, There's no code or anything similar to PSP and xbox 360. Sony has learned their mistakes from the psp. I remember someone trying to take pictures of the retail boxes to try and make sense out of it.
