PS3 Slim 320GB, ofw 3.50; where to start?

Hi all

I would like to mod my PS3 Slim 320GB, ofw 3.50 (UK) to be able to play backups. I bought the PS3 as a brand new couple months ago but havent had the time to mod it. Still playing MGS4. My main interest is to play single player games as I do not have enough free time to play competitive multiplayer games. I have modded some consoles before (PS2, Wii, PSP, Xbox360) so I have the experience. I should be able to mod PS3 as long as there are some clear tutorials and programs that will the hardest part for you.

Where should I start in order to mod my PS3?

1. As I understand there are some dongles available and then there are some free solutions. In order to mod the PS3 itself do I need to buy some sort of dongle?
2. What is the main difference between the dongle approach and free solution?
3. Can someone point me to a specific tutorial and files that are needed?

I would be vary thankful to a person who can guide me to a right track.

but: this has been asked like 100000 times (actually I'm pretty sure its 100000) a quick look into the forum would have let you know everythin you want to know much faster than making a new thread!

Yes, there are 2 methods;
Dongle and "Softmod" aka CFW

Dongles are (usually) USB Sticks you have to buy and mess with, if you are on 3.41 (there are some for 3.55 too though)

on the other side, there are CFWs (Custom Firmwares) which are free, easy and much faster to use with a higher game-compatibility than 3.41 Dongles

I wasn't disrespectful to the site. I know what search button is and do know how to use it. If you look I'm member since 2009 and I have only opened few threads. I always try to search the information myself rather than open new thread. So normally I do my own research before getting into any hacking. Unfortunately I have so little free time lately so I would rather spend that playing than trying to play a catch up game and try to understand what would be the best approach.

I do have more questions.

Are cfw region specific?
If yes can you install any cfw to your PS3?
Do the games need to be for the same region as cfw?

nope you can install any firmware to your PS3 and ps3 games are region free .

Get Kmeaw http://ps3.dashhacks.com/system/file..._KMEAW_CFW.RAR, put kmeaw file on USB stick in PS3/UPDATE folder (youll have to make these folders, case sensitive). Put usb stick in port on ps3. recovery mode:
1. Turn off PS3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

Pick system update install from USB, system should now be jailbreaked. Download http://ps3.dashhacks.com/system/file...-130000%29.rar, put file on ROOT of usb stick. Put usb stick in usb. under Game in XMB pick install pkg files, pick multiman file (install). Download BDEMU2-355.pkg put on USB stick install same way as multiman. Rip games via disc or ftp to internal or external hard drive through multiman. Go to PS3 Backup Compatibility List - PSHomebrew to see which games are compatible and how to get them to work.

I cant recall since you have 3.50, I think you have to install 3.55 official sony firmware first, then follow my post above.

There's really nothing to it.

Just create a folder called PS3 in the root of a flash drive. Inside that folder create another called UPDATE. Then put PS3UPDAT.PUP inside it.
