The problem with cfw is that people are rushing it and it's so much more dangerous to play with than the older payloads.

wuntang's cfw seems to be the basis for going forward though, waninkoko's method of brute forcing it is likely to cost the scene alot of bricked PS3s.

    Hi all, first post.
I was just wondering- does anyone have a rough guesstimate how many where bricked yesterday, what % of sceners are affected/gone?

The only thing I see wrong wit the scene is all the people that have no clue what they are doing are bitching and whining about how the "scene has gone to shit" or people with somewhat of a clue brick there system and then complain about it. This isn't something that is laid out for you in a high school text book so it's going to be confusing to hear lvl1 and lvl2 or peek and poke and all that shit. This scene has not gone to shit, trust me. It's only just started.

You guys may think this is a clusterf*ck at the moment, and your right, for the most part it is... But if your sort through the crap (99% of current threads) and you find what it's all about, all the exiting threads, new major breakthroughs every day or two.. I used to be on Xbox-scene way back and it was the same thing when things started coming out, people jumped the gun, messed with what they didn't know. In the end, the world needs *comment here*to do what the rest of the world won't..

These days the reason it's such a clusterf*ck is because of the number of people.. Modding your console used to be hard, and the scene was much smaller, similar to here, it all started with the 360 VS PS3 thing, back in 2003-2004.

It's a shame that there are so many people who are inexperienced doing some serious things to their consoles and messing them up (for good).. People don't understand that even though to implement the hack or whatever these days is so damn easy, doesn't mean it can't have serious issues after, just look at all the 256MB Bricks, those consoles were a dying breed and their value just jumped a bit more..

Stick around and keep an eye on the front page, because it's going to be one hell of a ride the next few months. Remember, we have the technology, now we must understand it and build on it!

I agree as well. It's nothing like the organised nature of the PSP scene. Also compared to the early days of the PSP scene (when it was only about 1.50) there isn't any homebrew or emulators being released daily . All signs sadly point to piracy.

To be quite honest, I know well enough what to make of it all, but I don't think the hype is quite matched to the accomplishments just yet. (I wouldn't dare point any fingers of blame, but failoverflow did a great job publicizing their achievement, and all the retards heard only one thing. "PS3 has been blown wide open".) The developers who seem to be doing the best work, are those that are taking their time. There is A LOT of shit going on in the background, and with all the crap that is out there, it's hard to find the gold nugget. Most of what is actually worth using at this point is still in development stages, or is simply just not for the end user to apply.

My system is currently on OFW 3.55. I am using Geohot's jailbreak on my "testing system" just to get a feel of the way the system operates, and to sort of flesh out the inner workings of some of the applications and tools that are out, just to get a feel of where we currently stand in development stages, but realistically, I think we're still a couple weeks away from making any solid, undeniable breakthroughs in order to bring us up where everyone is asking to be.

All things considered, basic programming and development is not something that is done overnight (at least not well), so I guess, to answer your question, the "ps3 scene" is in beta testing at the moment. Most big developments are going to be in furthering access to the system's inner workings for developers to have a more full view of what it is they should be looking out for.

But yes, it's quite a cluster****, and I intend to keep to myself for the most part until this whole lawsuit business is done with. I'll keep testing my own little experiments, and I expect most people will be doing the same. Don't apply every CFW and homebrew you come across, because even if it doesn't brick your console or tear a hole in the universe, it also doesn't mean it is ready for real, practical application.

+1 to that, not many people realize that this is still in the first stages.. Give it time, 6 months, a year from now, you'll be able to say, I was there for the birth of the PS3 homebrew explosion, where hundreds of people were bricking their consoles every day just to try a new firmware. lol

So the scene is a cluster**** because it confuses you? Last time I checked, the world didn't revolve around you.

    It revolved around me.
