PS3 Overheating after YLOD Reflow
PS3 Overheating after YLOD Reflow –
I just finished fixing the YLOD by doing a reflow with some liquid flux. After 2 tries i got the system to work again, but after only 5 minutes with the PS3 on, a message pops up saying the system is overheating and tells me to shut it off. So i shut it off and let it cool down for about 1 hour tried again same thing.
Used Arctic 5 Silver Thermal
Cleaned the entire system, vents, fan etc.
Could it be those little heatsink rubber pads? Mine is missing some.
Does it matter how thigthen are the clamps?
What could be the problem? Any ideas?
Really appreciate all the help i can get
Does the fan come on at all maybe you forgot to plug it back in
Yea, the fan turn on. after 1-2 min it stars to rev up at 3-4 minutes its going full speed and the the message pops up. i put my hand behind the system and when the fan is going really fast i can feel hot air coming out of the case.
The reflow failed...
so what's next? Do it again and apply a little bit more heat?
Take it apart again and check how much contact the processors are making with the heatsink. In all of the ones I"ve fixed this was an issue. I usually had to bend the clamps/add washers or put thermal pads under each processor to force the board level and make contact with the heatsink properly.
The last one I did this way I'm still using going on two months now.
i reflowed mine and it worked fine again for about 3months then it happened again . so I reflowed a 2nd time and got it working ok then sold it to 'Game' for £110 cash ! they tested it beforehand and it worked ok,the dumbass sales clerk didnt notice the void sticker had been removed !
reflowing works but not forever, long enough to retrieve saves, photos etc
