PS3 not jailbreaking...
PS3 not jailbreaking... –
11-15-2010,04:02 PM
Hi, I have 3 PS3's, 2 of which I've successfully jailbroken using my xbox360 usb spi jtag flasher.
Both those consoles work fine, boot up the proper method power then eject, and plays backups without an issue.
The 3rd PS3 however does not jailbreak. 3.41 firmware, using Hermes v4B on the same usb tool I'm using with my other two consoles...
Power then eject does nothing. I dont even get an error "unknown usb device" No lights show on the jb.
The only thing I can think of is this....the bluray drive motor is broken. It accepts and ejects disks, the laser works, but the spindle motor doesnt spin, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it?
The USB ports *should* work, because my remotes charge fine, and USB flash drives work as well, and I've tried both ports. It simply does not detect the JB on this one console.
Any help would be amazing! Thanks.

If there is no disc in, do you get the 3 beeps when you press eject? That should be all that matters as far as that goes.
Other than that, I only have an obvious suggestion... that is to be sure no other USB devices are plugged in at boot, other than your JB device.

Wow....the obvious suggestion of yours worked. I coulda sworn I tried this last night 100+ times without any devices, but I prob had a remote connected....
I just tried one more time after reading your suggestion, and it worked like a charm.... now I feel like a tard.

actually...I'll have to take that back, I think my USB ports are f**ked. Cant get the remotes sinc'd up, and its not JB'in again.
That explains it.

Yeah, I just opened it up again, I'm not seeing anything outta the ordinary. Matter of fact, I just ripped the entire console apart just incase, no scratches, no disconnected wires, etc. Im lost....

Just out of curiousity, have you tried installing/installed the 'correct' 3.41 firmware? Apparently there were 2 revisions of the 3.41 firmware - from which one was compatible with the jailbreak and the other I'm not so sure about, but I remember guides (back in the day) suggesting you had to have one of them and not the other...

definately a USB issue.
It should be the correct 3.41, because it just randomly worked about 20 minutes ago, in regards to the jailbreak. But when I restarted, it didnt work anymore. Also, USB ports seem to be completely dead. My flash drive doesnt light up, and remotes to not sync or charge....so now I'm stuck at that "ps3 was not turned off properly" screen.
I tried testing the ports, the multi's not showing any power unless I'm testing them wrong, but nothing is working. Guess im SOL

try sticking a piece of cardboard under the usb board so it makes better contact with usb terminals

Sounds like all you need is a new USB controller, so it shouldn't be a very expensive or hard fix.
But yes make sure you don't have anything else plugged in either. I had a Rock Band receiver plugged in, and that causes nothing to output. I was confused for like an hour why it wasn't working, and getting worried I screwed something up permanently. Removed the adapter and viola it worked.

Any pics of the chip in question here? If thats the case I'll gladly solder a new chip on there. I tested for power on the leads of the USB ports on the motherboard itself, so theres definately 0 power going to them, its just figuring out wtf is busted on the board to prevent sending the power that direction....thats where I'm lost. I'm pretty handy with that kinda stuff, so a tug in the right direction would be great in regards to the USB controller.
@jaysmoke
thanks for the suggestion, its actually something I tried, still nothing
I still have 2 other PS3's in the house, but it would be damn nice to fix this one for a 3rd or backup, so i can system link these bad larry's!
