yea, its the launch model. what did you mean when you mentioned that because you have the phat there is no need for the fw? i must be getting to old for this shit

you don't need the FirmWare as you have 256k nand and the entire FW is stored there (mid-80GB up to present only have 16k nand, so half the FW is stored on the HDD) what I did was back up my HDD (Backup Utility) turned off PS3, swapped HDD's, turn PS3 on Formatted and restored backup, all the time staying on CFW 3.55 Kmeaw

Finally some progress.

I've deleted allmost all the GAME DATA.
I've got 275GB free on my 320GB and I started the Backup Utility.
Now I just have to wait 3,5 hours and it's finally progressing passed the 0%.

What a hell just to upgrade my HDD I've been at it for 3 days.

Hopefully this evening I can put in my new HDD and restore the backup.
Then comes the most awfull part. Every game I want to play needs to install all it''s data over again.
Hopefully at the end of the month everything is back to normal.

Backup was a success!

I installed the 640GB, installed 3.55 OFW and restored the backup.
Strange thing is that the backup took about 3.5 hours to make but was restored in half an hour.
Installed Kmeaw and i'm now transfering my games back via FTP.

Only thing missing are the trophies.
I made a backup of the "home dir" via FTP, can I just copy the dir with the trophy data and replace the current dir on the HDD? Because I have no more thropies.

1. OFW 3.55 (recovery)
2. Backup
3. Replace HDD
4. Install 3.55 OFW
5. Restore backup
6. Install CFW 3.55 Kmeaw
7. Have fun!

I did it!

After restoring my backup on my 640GB HDD I didn't have any trophies.
I had a backup on my computer.
So I went to home/(userid) and saw no "trophy" dir.
So I copied the trophy dir from my backup and looked if I had any trophies but no.
After restarting the PS3 still no trophies.
I went to the recovery menu and rebuild database and after it completed I had all my trophy data restored!

Congrats Reppie,still looking at this 1TB myself, DNS method is working still maybe re sync from online

depends on your system I believe 2 methods have have been outlined in this thread, read the whole thread and the choose the one pertaining to your PS3 system
