A 1TB DOES fit, in a newer slim model with the HD cage and in old phat's like mine (60g launch model) with out the cage. The only problem I had with mine was 2 tangs blocking the sata connection. You can simply bend the tangs down with a screw driver so the drive clears them and your 1TB is in, try it.

I'm now currently using FTP to copy all the games from the HDD.
Then when all the games are gone i'm gonna try to use the backup utility again.

Does it work if I copy the savegame/thropy data via ftp and copy it back when I install the new HDD?

Sorry for some reason, I thought you were formatting a new drive.

Watch the FTP program make sure you don't have any errors. I've seen files not get copied properly.

EDIT: I have deleted the incorrect info I posted.

1TB does fit without the metal bracket around the original ones.
It fits a bit loose, so I took cut off one side of the bracket modified it a bit and now it fits nice and tight

Yeah will be doing that but after I have a backup from the old one.

I now copied all the games via FTP and deleted them of the HDD but still have 150GB used space on the PS3.
Now when I try to use the backup utility it says it will take 34 hours and still won't go past 0%.

The only thing I can still try is deleting game data.
Because I really need the backup to work due to a few protected savegames I can't copy normally.

should be no problem with game data as that can always be redownloaded easily

    Yeah I figured as much.

I'm gonna try that today and hopefully I can finally put in the new HDD.
It's been laying there mocking me for the last couple of days.

Hi reppie - plz let me know how it goes when you are finished. I got my backups to play but soon realized I'll need a larger hdd VERY soon (currently on a 60gb). I'm definitely new at this, so some details would be nice if its not to much of a hassle ; thanks.
