You didn't buy Western Digital did you? I made that mistake early on when I didn't know any better and I have some skipping / stuttering on some of my PSN titles. Actually, Rondo of Blood on PC Engine running under Mednafen has even been skipping occasionally. Get yourself a Seagate.
I figured it out my self but correct me if i'm wrong.
If you have 256MB NAND then the firmware is installed on the PS3 and if replacing the HDD you don't need to install firmware.
But is you have 16MB like I probably have then it installs it firmware on the HDD and I do need to install firmware after replacing the HDD.
But I already have an western digital scorpio 320GB installed and never had any problems. Also the 320GB has 7200 RPM.
But the advice I got here was to buy a 5400 RPM so I did and the store here that sells computer hardware mostly sells WD HDD.
Then it's clear now what to do.
Thx allot for the answers bitsbubba.
I'll do it the way you told me.
Sorry guys but I still have a problem.
Just put my ps3 back to OFW 3.55 and tried the backup program but my PS3 is standing still at 0% with an estimated time of completion in 70 hours. And it's been standing like this for the last 3 hours.
Any advice on this?
Sorry for hijacking this thread but I have a very similiar question pertaining to what you had stated about the 256 NAND PS3's.
Well I have a 40GB ps3 and to my knowledge that should contain a 256 NAND. If I were to change my HDD would I have to go back to OFW, then change HDD and then go back to CFW?
Once again, it's always advised that you go back to OFW before upgrading your HDD just to prevent unforseen problems.
I updated to Kmeaw 3.55 and installed some emulators and some BM's. Wanted to upgrade my hdd (Samsung Spinpoint MP4, 500GB, 7.200) so I go into recoverymode and update back to OFW.
After it's finished i saw the programs were still installed except for the apps folder and pkg installer.
The weird thing was that the emulators still worked on OFW. The BM's didn't. Is this normal?
Switched HDD anyways and all seems fine, though I haven't played anything or did anything yet besides changing the settings.
P.S. In my haste I forgot to backup my savegames. I have the old HDD in an enclosure. Can I still copy the savegames to the newly installed hdd?
