PS3 GT5 update? –
03-24-2011,05:09 PM
Hi,
I got my PS3 running 3.55 CFW KM, and it's connected to my network, which then allows it to connect to the internet.
I have not however tried to login to PSN.
When i play GT5 it keeps warning me about update 1.08.
Can i install through the internet without logging in to psn? or do i risk getting banned anyway?
thx.

You can install any updates without logging into PSN. If you're scared of what they're going to do though, use the program Awesome Update Finder or any of the other update finders, or PSX Store.

So those arent system updates or some kind of shadow update to update people to 3.60 or something?

Nope, game updates are completely separate from firmware updates. A game update will be version 1.x and your firmware will obviously be 3.56/3.60 (assuming you're on 3.55).

nice thx for the answer, it's easier just downloading it in game than having to download it on to the computer.

If your internet is slow like mine, and you think you might end up doing this again, manually downloading the GT5 updates isn't a bad idea. The update screen only says 1.08, but you will in fact be downloading 1.05, 1.06, 1.07, and 1.08, it's like 1GB worth of updates.

You can also temporarily disable network before starting the game and it won't ask. It's just as easy to download and install the packages manually, though, and then never worry about it asking again. Keep in mind (and this does get me a little paranoid), even without signing in to PSN, this is evidence that *some* data about your system is going across the internet, anyway. Never know if PD might "report" consoles that it is receiving communication from that have CFW signatures.
