PS3 game updates

Could anyone confirm something for me about new PS3 releases? Is there a prompt that you must update to a new version to play the game like 3.50 or 3.42 when not connected to the internet? I'm going to purchase FIFA tomorrow and want to know whether or not I'll be able to use it.

I don't. I mean will there be the files on the disc which make me install the newer version, I've heard its on F1 2011 and I'm wondering is it essential that the games force you to update or is there a bypass?

I don't think any game as of yet requires higher than 3.41, although that is sure to change soon.

If there are update patches for the game itself, that can be bypassed by pressing circle at the prompt.
