PS3 does not see external drive
PS3 does not see external drive –

Hi
I have formatted my external disk (Western Digital 320GB) to FAT32, created a direcotry called GAMEZ and placed a backup there. However, when I insert the USB cable in the PS3 the drive is not seen.
Any idea what might be causing this? Because I can't find anywhere on the forum on how to resolve the issue.. I am using a PS3Key and it does work with a 8GB USB dongle
Thanks

Try creating a folder named MUSIC and put a song in there to see if the PS3 will detect that.

I need to turn on my external hard drive on only when in Backup Manager for it to be seen.If I turn it on beforehand,it won't show.

I created a folder called MUSIC but it's not seen. Neither when I turn off the disk and then turn it on in Backup Manager. Can it be something with the connection? Since it's a small USB port to USB.

When you plug the external hard drive into your computer does it ask for a password to access it? If it does enter the password and then disable it, since when you plug the hard drive in the ps3 it doesn't let you enter a password. I had the same problem took me a couple hours to figure it out.

Also make sure that its not a USB powered external drive, it has to be AC powered, the PS3 will not see a USB powered drive (at least in my experience and from what i have read)

Many people are using USB powered drives. Hell, I've got a couple of games on my 30GB ipod and even that works fine.

Try created a directorys like this:
hdd0>game>LAUN12345>GAMEZ then placed a backup there.
Remember, hdd0= Zero, written 0, is both a number.. not a letter. Please let me know, ok ?

That will absolutely not work on the external drive. All he needs is a GAMEZ folder in the root.
His problem here is that the PS3 is not seeing the external drive at all.
