PS3 crashing
PS3 crashing –

hi everyone
my ps3 has been crashing lately. it first started when i was playing AC II discless it started to slow down untill it stopped.
Then it happened again in GWIII (with a disc inside) when restarting from last checkpoint. I held the power button to turn it off and heard 3 bips before the ps3 would turn off.
I wanted to know if this is normal when playing blackups or if the ps3 might be close to ylod or something like that.
Thanks

Not normal at all. My PS3 crashes once in a blue moon and usually when I'm trying to quit something. Anyway, first thing to do is get your PS3 in safe mode (not to be confused with service mode) and do a HDD repair and see if that fixes your issue.

It could be the beginnings of the YLOD problem, but no idea. I'd say run a chkdsk on your external (if you're using one) and the HDD repair on the internal just to rule out the HDD's, then see if the issue comes back. If so, you might want to be a little preemptive and do the ylod fix.

i use a 500gb 5400rpm internal on a 80gb phat.
i really don't feel confortable with opening up my ps3 so i think i'll just see where it goes. I rather have a close to break ps3 than no ps3 at all.
btw thans a lot for your help i'll report back here tomorrow and say if the problem appeared again or not

Is that a 7200 or 5400 rpm HDD? There's been a lot of talk that the 7200rpm drives cause too much heat and can cause stuttering, lockups, and the YLOD problem.
