PS3 for Christmas - Advice
PS3 for Christmas - Advice –
Ok, first of all I want to thank everyone for all their contributions to this site. It is amazing to see such a strong community at work.
As a newcomer to the PS3 scene, it is a bit overwhelming as to ALL the different options out there. So, I am asking for some guidance on what is the most foolproof direction to go.
I will be receiving a PS3 Slim for Christmas next week. My hope is to be able to have a USB loader like I do for my Wii. I have a 9 year old son and he and his friends have ruined more than a few of the games we have purchased, so I love being able to purchase the game, put in on the USB drive and putting the disc away for safe keeping.
I have read and see this is all possible with the PS3. I understand from reading that I need to make sure that no one upgrades the PS3 to any new firmware before I get started on y jailbreak. I need to verify that it is on FW version 3.5 or less to be able to work, correct.
Next, what is the simplest method to use. I have read every review on this site and seem to be leaning towards three options. The first being the PS3Yes-Pro. Second option is the E3 card reader, third I am looking at the PS3Key. Can anyone give me their real world advice. Which direction would you go? Realize my son and wife will need to be able to boot and use the solution easily.
What steps would you go through when starting with a new device? Any "Best Practice" advice you are willing to share? Just general guidance is welcome, I do not need someone to hold my hand, I just want someone to give me the general path. Something like "Buy the E3, go out and downgrade to the x.x firmware and you will be fine" should be enough direction to get me going.
I appreciate all the help and look forward to the thread.
Heres a tip to use when buying a PS3 to jailbreak, from what I know, when buying a PS3 try not to get a PS3 that is preloaded with 3.5(or 3.42) as there is some people with specific models that CAN'T be downgraded and I think that they were all preloaded with 3.5 . When the systems that came preloaded with 3.5 and 3.42 came out, the boxes had a Playstation Move ad or logo on the box, I think I saw it on the side of the box when I went to my local electronics store yesterday.
Yesterday Walmart had a deal on a PS3, it was a 160Gb(atleast I think it was that amount) for $299 and it came with a $100 gift card but you couldn't use that card on the PS3, and I bought one, I didn't see a Move logo on it, but I'm not gonna use it for jailbreaking any way as I already have one for that.
I'm not sure which dongle to buy though, as I just use my phone to jailbreak/downgrade my PS3, but the E3 card reader was the first off brand dongle to be able to downgrade a PS3, so it seems like they keep their dongle updated.
And thank you for saying that you don't want us to "hold your hand" through everything, most people expect us to and refuse to do their part on reading about jailbreaking and researching it and how to do it, and it just pisses us off(this one guy was seriously begging us to hold his hand through everything and wanted a hand written step by step tutorial, so after about 1 page of us helping him and telling him what to look up and him still begging us for one in every post, we gave him one and he said literally said "That's too complicated."), your probably the first person that actually said that they don't want us to or doesn't expect us to.
If you have any other questions related to downgrading or jailbreaking then go ahead and I'll try my best to answer them, but if you have more questions about specific dongles, then I can't help you there as I don't own a single one, but I'm sure that the other members can help you.
