PS3 CFW Questions –
Hello PSX Scene community!
I have 2 ps3s, One that is fully functional and one thats been sitting in a corner, for the longest time. It works, well, sort of. it doesnt want to read any discs (Blurays, DVDs, CDs).
So I have decided install a CFW on it. lucky me its on 3.55 FW.
Ive been reading the "How to - Jailbreak/CFW you PS3 consoles in 4 easy steps" thread.
Anyways, i was looking into installing REBUG's Latest REX CFW which is 4.46.1 - is this a good and stable CFW?
Now alot of question come into my mind when i think of installing a CFW on my semi-broken? PS3.
1. I have alot of games that i would like to make backups of and play them on my PS3.(After installing the CFW ofcourse.) Now, does this CFW provide that function? If so, do i need a Bluray disc in the drive while playing the backups? Can i play PSX and PS2 backups aswell.
2. Can i install my backups on the PS3 HDD or will i have to get a separate device for that?
3. Any good homebrew packages/plugins etc you guys can throw in to make the CFW scene on the PS3 for me enjoyable?
Thanks in advance PSX Scene! Mherb
Rebug firmwares are very stable and have a lot of great features.
1 and 2 You can backup ps3 games from disc using multiman to either an internal or external hdd (fat32). However if the game has any single big files (>4GB) you can only install to the internal because of the fat32 file size limit. Personally I keep as many games as possible on my external to keep space free on the internal. With playback I always keep a game in the drive because there is better compatibility that way, although many games run fine without a disc. PS1 and PS2 games released over PSN can be made to work (PSN content in general will run), and you can convert some PS2 and PSP isos to run as well, also ps1 isos can be run from multiman.
3 Some other app(packages) you will want are Multiman 4.46, reactPSN, and the newest Iris Manager if you want another backup manager and manual control of you fan's speed.
There are also some good emulators out there also but I don't know if they support 4.46 yet

Ok getting confused. So when installing multiman, Do i just need the base? or do i need BDEMU file aswell. what else do i need? so many how to's on google and youtube i dont know which one to follow. so again, im here for a consultation, dont want to do anything wrong that might make matters worse.
no need for BDEMU just install the latest mutliman and you are good to go
thanks for the reply. anyways i followed a guide on ps3hax on how to convert ps2 iso to classics followed that guide to the "T". i did because i did the proccess like 3 times and i always end up getting a copyright error 80025193

When installing multiMAN, and especially the first time, one needs to intall the closest base version prior to any other updates that deank might release. So go base first.

PS: Never used the PS2 to Classics. Perhaps someone else can lend a hand regarding that.
I followed these links when I was on Rogero 4.30 v 2.03 and Multiman 4.40 and everything worked fine. I am currently on Rogero 4.46 v1.00 after formatting my PS3's internal hard drive without PS2 Manager because it is better to play PS2 games on a PS2. No issues with any games, plays perfectly any original backup, can backup to external HDD using a original PS2 console.
Mind not all games can be played to perfection using PS2 Manager for PS3 as there might be some texture issues as I faced for Castlevania. Some games play perfectly like Cold Fear. Check this link-

so once i install the bdemu2.pkg im all good to go? is there a way to just run my back up from multiman?
well then i guess i have to pay my lil bro a visit so i can get my ps2 back..
also, can i play online with cfw?

Since you have two PS3's and if one is downgradable, (if the other one is downgradable as well) then backup all your original games using the working one (working bluray lens) to an external HDD or switch the lens (complicated process in the front page of this scene/website under downgrade. Not recommended if you can't follow the guide with confidence) if you know how if it is not downgradable. Switch lens again after backing up. Again some games do not run without a disc in the drive. Check this link - PS3 Backup Compatibility List - PSHomebrew. So you probably need to fix the lens
Internal HDD in the long run may not last if you have a large collection of Owned PS3 games that you want to backup. I think it is less expensive to buy a External HDD, can use for other purposes other than gaming like databackup, can partition to NTFS, etc. You can just carry the external HDD between two downgraded PS3's. Can carry the external HDD to another location in your house if you have more than 1 PS3 elsewhere in your home a little far away. External HDD safeguards your backedup games if something goes wrong with the PS3 and there is an error which is not letting you boot to XMB and you are unable to do anything else but reinstall everything back.
