PS3 40gb fat CFW Black Screen Problem

Hello there...
I own an old fat ps3 40gb with a faulty blu-ray drive. I had installed kmeaw to play my back ups etc. But today i tried to run Multiman and it gave me a black screen and i had to hard power off it. After that every homebrew i tried every back up manager, everything, gave me a black screen. I coudn't run anything. So i formatted the hdd, installed OFW 3.55 and then again kmeaw. But the problem was there again. I tried also Waninkoko v2 but black screen again. I tried everything (i think) :( from rebuilt database to system restore but still nothing...i cannot run anything.
Any suggestions that might fix my problem???

Hang on are you using a level 2 patcher?

Multiman doesn't have one built in no more, try gaia manager and rogero as well.

Edit: and probably the reason your homebrew wont work on waninkoko is because a pkg made for kmeaw wont work on waninkoko and vice versa.

Reinstall kmeaw and make sure the multiman pkg you use doesn't have a WT in the pkg name use the other one.

even lvl2 patcher gave me just a black screen. gaia and rogero as well black screen. and yes i used the correct version for each firmware....:cry:

Do demos downloaded from PSN give you a black screen? It sounds like your blu-ray drive might have gone out completely. If just the lens/laser was faulty, you can launch games and everything like you had previously. However, if the logic board, certain components in the blu-ray drive, or the entire drive is faulty, there's nothing you can do and you will get a black-screen on everything with that ps3, until it is repaired. Your drive may have gotten more problems. Since PS3s require matching logic boards, its not as simple as buying a new drive off ebay and throwing it in. It won't work in most cases. There are a few guides you can find online that detail how to take off and solder a piece from your old drive to put on a new drive, but its very detailed soldering.

Usually with a faulty blu-ray drive, you'll get stuck during the firmware update process in an endless loop. Since you were able to install different firmware PUPs, there may be something else at fault. Your best bet is to open your ps3 up, and carefully check all the connections. All the ribbon and power cables for the blu-ray drive, wifi/bluetooth modules, etc. Maybe something moved ever so slightly and that was enough to give you the issues you're having.

Since you formatted the hard drive, and reinstalled all the file system, I would suggest trying a demo off PSN to see if you get a black screen off that. Theres numerous ways to get demos without connecting to PSN, so just use whichever of those methods you perfer. If you're still getting the blackscreen, I'd go through your ps3 and check all your connections. Hopefully there is just some stupid little thing snagging ya up, and you'll get it sorted out.

thnx but still no luck...i tried a demo and it still gives me the f****** black screen. as for the cables, everything is in their place....:cry:

my guess is your blu-ray drive is kaput.

****ed laser = some (compatible) games will run off hdd.
****ed drive/board = noting will run whatsoever.

i changed the laser with a working one...the disc spins in it but no icon on the xmb or any homebrew running even now....so i guess it's the logic board??
