PS1/PS2 backups?...

Been reading quite a bit about the ability of playing PS1/PS2 backups on a backwards compatible debug system and was just wondering to those in the know, is it possible or going to be possible to ever play backups of our PS1/PS2 games the same way we do whilst having a jailbroken retail PS3 from internal/external HDD?

I was just playing a PS2 game on my PS3 and I just noticed again how much I hate the disk-reading noises lol...and the fact it won't be doing my laser any good!

Any news on this, I heard someone got a 2.xx debug firmware to run on a JB retail PS3 recently.

huh you can play PS2 backups on a retail BC JB system with the swapmagic trick...
using the openPS2Loader & USBloader...
now i don't know if it works with PS1 games also i think you can use the disc patcher to patch those.

Now the best is to be able to play PS1/PS2 backups without the SwapMagic shit, playing them like other backups would be awesome.

Cheers for your reply, I have swap magic and it does a decent job but compatibility isn't perfect and emulating usb 1.1 sucks lol.

I just hope someone can find a way to use Sony's own PS1/PS2 emulators in BC PS3's and allow the running of backups off internal or something.

Sad face! How comes? Is it as hard as CFW or something? Damn, Sony did a damn good job with the security on PS3...bastards.

Will installing debug FW on a retail PS3 not open up any possiblity on a backwards compatible PS3 then? It's so simple in theory...yet so far in reality.

ive been doing backups and pS2'brew before JBing.. but not alot will like my method.. and FYI sony's security on BC is laxer than you think..

dont exactly need Swapmagic either..

ive done this to my PS3because part of the drive mechanics that invlove ejecting broke on me.but laser's still goin strong..

Remove the PS3 top half then disconnect and remove teh BDRom drive,, while having it in your hand Remove teh drive Top half of teh sheet metal cover.remove the peice ontop that slides teh disc out.

if yoru drive ejects fine you nee dto stop it from moving up and down inside make sure teh drive is Up.. then remove teh white gears that slid eit up and down.

you'll notice two metal tabs where the Power and eject were.. becarefull! to eject lightly tap it.the drive wont process an eject. but will tell it to Check and read a disc. Let it Read an High TOC disc (God of War 1 and 2 do teh trick Plenty ..)

wait till you see "Playstation2 Format Disc" appear.

remove teh lil white magentic tab that holds your disc down.then swap your DVD-R copy.. place the tab back on. Dont hit eject But play the disc. and Blamo.

The problem is the PS3 slim and Phat (PS1 wise) will blindly boot what every is in teh drive when an BC title is detected. this lets you use certain Cheat discs normally blocked by the XMB, Homebrew discs and import titles that are blocked as well. if it outright wont work you'll get an startup operation failed(sometimes this is normal and should work an 2nd time but if after 5 tries and you STILL get teh error the game Just isnt compatable. (yes there are some rare games PS2 and PS1 that Just dont work even on 20GB and 60GB PS3s)

for PS2 games still it'll blindly boot any PS2 disc but remember higher the TOC for the donor disc better it is. and keep in mind. CD donors for PS2 CD formats and DVD Donors for PS2 DVD Formats.. in essense thers 3 Laser modes if you wish on the BluRay laser of any BDRom drive the PS3 is no diff but in the PS3 it reads an DVDand you swap, it can and will only read a swapped dvd.. cd for cd and bluray for bluray.

PS1 games as a donor, Chrono cross, FF7 FF8 and FF9 they all work beautiflly as donor discs.(disc one on all of the above.)

"But you mentioned cheat discs!!" yes i did.. ive experimented witrh every version of every us disc on both PS2 and PS1.

PS1 Gameshark v4 the one w/ the cd-r glitch is so/so.. you hear it audibly boot but no video. V5 works but it wont boot a cd-r. even if you swap like you did to load these.. the last Codebreaker for PSX works too.

PS2: codebreaker 9.2 was the only one i could get working DVD and in .elf format. anything else locks up the PS3.

bit of warning PS1 Gameshark/Codebreaker works better but PS2.. well in .hack infection ~ Quarantine.. stays ok in towns but.. second you enter a feild you got about 6 battles or you enter an dungeon till you graphically glitch so bad you freeze.

in case of .hack//GU 1~3.. within 30 seconds to 1 min from game boot you will freeze. This bug.. i cant test further i dont have access to an full hardware assisted BC PS3.. but 80GB's emulate the EE and have the PS2 "GS" and because the EE Emulation is bearly stable mess with that and things go haywire..

Woah lol , and how about if you got a PS3 with a dead BR or un-married BR Logic Board...
but disc spinning but not appearing ?

That's why loading backups straight into PS3 via USB HDD/internal HDD is the way to go, but how ?

I got many PS2 titles on original discs but i can't even play them since the BR i got isn't married to that PS3 Grrrrrrrrr Sonyyyyyyyy

Awesome replies guys, thanks for the info. Dracari, did you upload a YouTube video about what you have just described? I saw one a few months back uploaded in I think 2008 and the vid shows a PS3 with it's cover off and disk swapping...awesome stuff, just wish there was a way of having a similar method that we do with playing PS3 games.

I pray someone finds a way to decrypt the PS1/PS2 emulators on the PS3 that Sony made...I truly cannot wait for that day.
