PS 3 Jailbreak with broken disc reader
PS 3 Jailbreak with broken disc reader –

My ps3 stopped being able to read games a while back and since i dont have any warranty i just stopped using it.
When i saw that i would be possible to play games from the harddrive i would like to start playing again but then i found this in the FAQ and it worried me a bit:
Does a game disc have to be inserted to play backups?
Yes. Any retail disc inserted in the drive will aid compatibility when launching backups from a hard drive.
Since mine cant read any games will i be able to use the jailbreak?

the back up loader needs a lagit disk in the drive to work as well btw.

I'm in the same situation. Do you think someone will find a way around having to have a disk in while playing backups from the hard drive? Similar to how you used to have to have a UMD in the psp to play backups.
Otherwise I guess i'll have to buy a replacement laser.

I think there's a chance for everything now. People just have to put time in to programming it. And I bet lots of people have this problem and would kill for an app that does the ISO loading thing.

Has anything been released yet that would work without being able to read discs ?

well it will probably happen eventually. Remember when the psp first got hacked, on the early cfw's you had to have a umd in the disc drive to boot a copied game. It is the same way with the ps3 now, just give it time and it will be possible.

Actually, the recently released PS3 FTP Server can do that but still doesn't defeat needing a disc in the drive.
HYBRID MAN!
