Problems booting games from Multiman, need help
Problems booting games from Multiman, need help –
I am new to the ps3 modding scene, and have some questions here.
So I downgraded my ps3, and installed rogero 4.30 cfw, i think ver. 2.05. I then installed Multiman 4.20.00 Full.
I installed Family Guy onto the interal HDD, and booted it just fine through XMB, however I can't get it to boot from MM. It takes me back to XMB, are there specific settings I need to do. Also do some games REQUIRE a ps3 game disc to boot? I took my friends ps3 to mod it, but don't have any ps3 game discs, so I can't test that right now. Reason I ask about this is I also have twisted metal, and when looking at the PS3 backup compatibility list, it says NO to the DISC-LESS option. Is there a way around this, or do I have to have any disc in the ps3 to boot? I have been reading about options that MM has when booting games, such as BD-emulator, BD-Mirror, Direct boot, Select+X, and when finding info about this, I'm still not exactly sure when to use these options, can someone explain it.
When booting games from external usb, is it similar to internal, or are there settings I must set? Does it matter using internal vs external, or is one better than the other?
Yes, you need any PS3 game disc in to boot games. You select a game from Multiman & and it takes you back to the XMB screen. You then go to the blue disc & you will find that it has changed from the game you put in the console to the game you have selected via mulitman. You would then just press X on the blue disc as normal. I have a cheap game that is permantly in the disc drive & even boot games with a disc that can boot discless as it's less hassle for me. Games that are discless can be set to boot direct from multiman using direct boot in the game setting if i rember rightly. Or they can be booted from XMB via /app_home/PS3_GAME/
If you try and boot a game with no disc that is not compatible for discless boot, it will black screen & lock up your console. As far as i know, there is no way around this. You will then have hold the power button until the system forces it's self to shut down. Like i said, i just have a game permantly in the PS3 so i dont have to bother to check if the game is discless or not. Select & X enables BD-Mirror. This option use to stop most of the frozen black screen issues that happened with backed up games. I haven't personally come accross this isue in a long time now, so not sure if these options are needed as much now? I remember that the first assassin's creed would freeze on boot up, but this option then allowed it to load correctly.
I'm not sure about new versions of MM but i had to download a pkg file called BDEMU to be able to boot games from MM. Without that file it wasn't possible to boot any games from MM. Maybe someone else on here can clear this up as it's been a long while since i originally installed MM. It may well be included in the base now? Once you have a game disc, if you find that the game disc is not changing then it will probably be this.
If you have a game that has a file over 4GB in size, it will not be abe to boot from external. This is because the external is formatted in FAT32 & FAT32 can not support files bigger than this. For these games, MM will split the file into smaller files, but the game can not be booted like this. You have to put these games on the internal drive to be able to play them. I have a couple like this & i have them on the external when not playing & then simply transfer it over via MM to the external when i want to play it. MM will join th split files up again when it is transfering. Booting games from the internal drive use the same steps as if you boot a game from external. Playing games from the internal drive may speed up load times due to being connected via SATA & not USB 2.0.

You don't boot games from MM, you basically load games through multiMAN and when you do that, it returns to the XMB with the game loaded to [app_home/PS3_GAME] where you can start it from.
Most games can run diskless but some can't. If a game doesn't run diskless, you have to insert an original game disk (any game) and start the game from the disk instead of [app_home/PS3_GAME] (this is after loading it in multiMAN and returning to the XMB, the game disk icon will change to your loaded game instead of your inserted original game).
Also, there are some games that need the BD-Mirror option turned on, you do that by pressing square on the game in multiMAN and setting BD-Mirror to on. Such games don't run diskless (there is a way to run all games diskless, but it is complicated and you'd rather use a disk).
Booting games from external is exactly the same, there used to be some games which only ran from external (the games that require the BD-Mirror option) but I think dean updated multiMAN at one point to run those games from internal. I don't use external anymore, all my games work from internal (such as F1 Race Stars which needs BD-Mirror to work and I run from internal).
Hope this helps.
Never unplug your PS3 from the mains! Just press the power button and keep it pressed, your PS3 would eventually shut down.

Anyways, if BDEMU is not there, MM will give you a message when you start it telling you that you cannot load games or something like that. If you're not getting this message, this means BDEMU is there.

what is the mounting part? I am interested to learn.
The mounting part is when you mount the game through multiMAN, it will be mounted to [app_home/PS3_GAME] and to the BD Disk icon where you can launch it from.
