I know that the reason we can't play 4gb+ games out of external hard drives is that the PS3 firmware itself has no support for NTFS/exFAT over USB. However, recent versions of MultiMAN do. Would it be hard to include the same NTFS driver in the CFW itself so that our backups will play? People with launch-day consoles (<60GB) would be very grateful...
You can always upgrade your internal HDD. 500gb hdd go for pretty cheap nowadays, hell 1tb hdd are still on sale for the holidays.
Unfortunately, I have heard of several issues with that process, including some exclusive to CFW users. On top of that, I have one of the old 256MB NAND models, which no one seems to know much about. Besides, I have quite a few external hard drives sitting at home that I could use
