probably a dumb question about jailbreaking

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum; I'll delete the thread and repost if necessary.

I've never jailbroken anything other than my iPhone, so I have 0 idea what can be done in terms of jailbreaking a PS3. Are there any specific benefits to doing so? One thing I heard rumour of, which I'm curious about (but wouldn't do), is that you can "hack" your trophy list to basically get platinum on any and all games. Is that even possible (albeit with the risk of being banned)? What other things can someone do if they were to jailbreak their console?

I look forward to positive/constructive comments. As I said, if this post is in the wrong forum, I will gladly delete and repost. There's no need to get on my case about it; I'm new here is all.

You can use CFW to use homebrew & original game backups.

This is possible, but as you probably know, it's pretty pointless and pathetic.

I'd rather not risk getting banned anyway. I've only earned 3 plats and I busted my ass for them. I'd rather have 3 earned ones than 25 hacked ones anyway.

Can someone send me a link to any resources that might help me to jailbreak the latest update that just came out (if there is a tool for it yet)?
