Pre-Jailbreaking/ More Info
Pre-Jailbreaking/ More Info –
I've been going back and forth searching many websites on how to jailbreak my PS3 but I found this website more trustworthy. However, the information given here are for people who at least had the experience to jailbreak before. I've read the stickies, memorized the abbreviations and few other things. Still, don't know what to do. I should probably read more. I need small favor though.
My PS3 firmware is on 4.31 (No jailbreak, it's just on this version).
- Do I need to restore to factory settings?
- What custom firmware should I use? Noting that I don't know if it will work or not because of my current version.
- What other mods are needed? I read something about MM, don't know what's it for and hombrew (I'll read about it soon)
Most importantly, how do you run the game after jailbreaking? Note that I'm not asking for how to get free games. I need to know the following:
- What are the steps to run the game?
- What's the difference between .pkg game files and normal files (I have a ps3 game has .pkg and another game that isn't. It has normal files. Do they run using different methods?)
First things first if your on any firmware higher than 3.55 you need to downgrade

After the PS3 is downgraded, Rebug is a popular custom firmware, and so is Rogero. Either the 3.55 versions or the 4.31 versions will work...it is up to you. Games that are in a .pkg format are typically homebrew games/utilities. Actual games are disk files. To copy a legit PS3 game, insert the disk, open a backup manager (Multiman is the best) and select the "backup" option. To play the copied game, you would need to run Multiman, select the game from the menu, then start the game from the XMB (PS3 home screen menu).
To install a .pkg (package) file, you'd need to use the "Install Package Files" option on the XMB after your console is on custom firmware. The option will obviously not appear if you are on official firmware.
There is absolutely no way to install any custom firmware without downgrading, so don't ask about that. YOU MUST DOWNGRADE FIRST.

Thanks for the info Raikalo, it was helpful.
