I was just pondering the other night about playing PSOne games on a JB PS3 and then i started thinking about the MGS PSOne game i downloaden on PSN.

I suspect they didn't completely rebuild the game but they probably made some kind software emulator for it or they created some kind of loader. (is there someone who can confirm this or can tell me i'm talking shit?)

If the above is true it might be worth it to analyse the file structure of the PSN version so that maybe we can rebuild certain files of that to make it work generically with any PSX game we place on the HDD?

Am i on to something or not because i might put some hours into researching this but if someone already did it, it's useless.

I believe (retail disks) the PS3 (all models) can play PS1 games out of the box.
Make sure you butter the non reflective side of your CD's / DVD's and Blu-Rays so that when you drop them, they land butter side down thus preventing scratches.

PS1 games are so cheap, why pirate them ?

I believe the PSOne games on PSN use a version of the PoPS Loader, similar to that which has already been exploited to play multiple PSOne games on the PSP. However, like all bought PSN titles, this would be encrypted so it's likely that we will have more luck with attempting to get the PSP version to run on the PS3 than trying to pack our own games into the PS3 version.

and i believe that is also the reason why one part in MGS4 wont work because it's actually running a PSOne game which is not supported by any available jailbreak/BM..

Yes, I remember that level of MGS4 used the PS1 emu and I was wondering if it would work actually.

A PSX iso loader should be fairly easy to implement though, even if it is a 3rd party emulator and doesn't actually utilise the built in one, the PS3 is more than capable of a PC PSX emulator port.

You can play PS1 games on PSP with Popsloader and recently there's an PSP emu on PS3 ..So PS3 should be able to run PS1 EBOOT's , right ?
