I've done a forum search but haven't found anything related so...
The usual procedure is to wait for the XMB finish loading and then move across, down, down, down etc to find the backup manager of your choice but is it possible to have the manager (or any app) auto-start? Kind of like startup folder for Windows or, if you're old enough, autoexec.bat from DOS?
I know it's not a lot of button presses but sometimes I need to start the PS3 just to get the FTP running so I can transfer a bunch of things that might take a while. Once I get the FTP server running I turn the monitor off again. Once it's finished transferring I leave the monitor off and hit X knowing that it quits the FTP server. A few seconds later it will be back on the XMB and then I tap the power button and that's it. Being able to auto start the FTP server would save me having to turn the monitor on at all. Not much of a time, or electricity, saving I know but it would still be nice if it can be done

Well as you asked, if it's possible... yea it surely is. I mean you can auto-sign-in to psn for example. That is clearly executed after xmb is loaded. So you would have to create a script that is executed after xmb finished booting up. Not quite sure which files are involved though. But looking at the recent modifications done (ps1-startup-sound for example) to the xmb (+making them permanent by flashing them), it seems possible to do.
