So anyways i had to mess with a good thing even though i have done this shit before and had this same thing happened. My ps3 will now not let me proceed to the XMB without formatting.

Anyone know anyway around this? Can i pop in a different hard drive to trick it past that, then pop the other back or will it not recognize it then?

    I was following this procedure:

Edit: button combo is just for reassurance that you are QA flagged
The first time I tried to install the 9.99 downgrader it hung on install for over 15 minutes, more like 20. Then I finally had hard reset it because I figured it would have been done by then if it was going to. I was able to get it to install 3.55 REX Rebug through recovery, but unfortunately I have had the hard disk error ever since the semi failed 9.99 downgrader install

Any ideas or help is much appreciated.

I am prepared to format but for F sake I dont want to. Its a 750 gb internal so I will have my work cut out for me.

Well F me. Looks like the ps3 won the battle, but Im gonna have to win the war takin the long route

I went back and forth, up and down, and tried several variations of switching my drives out. It seems when the ps3 flags this error on the HD their is no undoing it (that i know of) . It seems to be an issue with large HD's I am thinking, not sure, but maybe their is something to that.

Well downgrading back to 3.55 (just to be safe) now to do a full format. Serves me right for f'ing around with a well working setup. One of these days I'll learn. maybe

man that sucks i've had that happen once to me...and i was on ofw at the time with the original 60 gig hd...lost all saves and everything...because of that i went ahead and updated to my 500 gb drive i have in it now
sony throws the first punch at 3.21 with removal of other os....hackers kick back at 3.41...at 3.55 hackers crack the bitch like a $5 whore and she has been bleeding ever since

Is it normal for the internal HDD to be required to be formatted when downgrading firmware or did something else go wrong here to cause it to happen?

I am not 100% sure on this. I propose these scenario's

    1. My HD file system was already corrupted, maybe the downgrade triggered the ps3 recognizing it.
    2. Maybe it is not a good idea to use the 999 downgrader to go from Rogero 4.30 down. I took Bitsbubba's advice cause he said it worked for him. Maybe i should of stuck to the rogero downgrade guide.
    3. Kind of a long shot but maybe larger HD's have a tendency to get corrupted easier

I have done this once before, coincidentally when experimenting with Rebug, but that may have been my own fault. I was trying to figure out the Uncharted 2 bug that was then going on at the time when the first Rebug FW was released. Someone suggested to try to rebuild database. I forgot to turn off my spoof and I attempted this. I then was stuck with the same error. I think at that time when I fixed it, i had only done a quick format with the ps3 so maybe the problem was still on the drive.

This time however I did a full format on my pc that took bout 3 hours to complete so I am hoping this will nip it in the butt, whatever the hangup with the HD was. I am now safely on Rebug 4.21 and am back on the road to recovery Just got about a wk or so of getting things back to where they need to be again. Luckily I have backups of mostly everything and I had FTP'd my user profile.

Anybody have experience with FTP'ing your old user profile over to a fresh console? or do I just transfer the saves once the new user is created?
