So I have a 3.41 PS3 JB, but like many of you guys I don't have my Ethernet cable plugged in, nor have I ever accessed the PSN store, I currentlty bought it used.

I wanted to play Windows Video and Music and it says its not enabled, to enable it in settings, but I am not sure what will happen since its asking for a ethernet cable... will it update my Firmware??????????????

    Thanks Guys!

Hi, I had the same worry( check my other posts). Make sure automatic updates is off in your settings, connect your ethernet, and activate your WMV playback. Disconnect. All done. You may want your ethernet for FTping and stuff too. What I have done is set up my networking manually, and set default gateway ( or whatever it says ) to a mask that not valid

    ie my Router is 192.168.1.1
So set to 192.168.0.1 ( which doesn't exist obviously) so it can't get out.
Doing a network test will confirm you are connected to your router, and you will see the internet access fail.
People are also saying that they think it is OK to use the browser and stuff on the internet too ( as long as auto update is off) , but I am being paranoid and not letting it out anytime without me knowing.... what do others think on this matter????

    hope this helps

if your that bothered then as stated.. goto settings and DISABLE auto update... then it wont auto update your console... u click activate wma and it takes 2 seconds.... then remove cable if your still paranoid... mine auto connects to wifi everytime i turn it on... im still good this end... and no psn setup on ps3 so no need for sony to even know my ps3 is there! :P
