Ok, so I am in need of your help.
I have a 20GB PS3 with backwards compatibility and firmware 3.30. Its the phat models with 4 usb ports. I am trying to upgrade it to a OFW 3.55. I tried almost everything. I used my 160GB external hard drive (yes it is FAT32 but not all of it - about 30 something GB of it). I downloaded the OFW 3.55 and put it in the PS3/UPDATE folder and I kept getting the awesome message "getting no applicable data found". I did some research and even used a small USB (4GB) also formatted to FAT32 and still I get the same message.
I next googled what to do and they suggested going into recovery mode and updating from there. Now I know my power button is working so there shouldn't be a problem. However, when I press the button, I do not get the beeps or access to the recovery mode. This is very frustrating for me considering I just want to play and this seems to be more of a hassle than anything else.
Please help! Why am I not able to access the recovery mode? Why isn't the power button allowing me to manually shut down my PS3?
Thanks.

try this...
rogero 3.3 (i think its 4.21 spoofed.)
be sure to rename the file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP"
it is very important to have X:/PS3/UPDATE/"PS3UPDAT.PUP" (X:/ is root) on the flash drive. you want the pup file inside the update folder not in the same directory as the update folder.
what happens when you press and hold the power button? press it a little harder, i had a ps3 that had a weird power button. you really had to press it to turn on the ps3. so try to press a little harder.
