    So I have a 250 GB 5200 RPM WD Scorpio Blue internal laptop HDD and I want to replace it with the stock ps3 hard drive.

    The thing is I have about 100 GB of things on that hard drive. What is a great way to replace the HDD but keep all the stuff (like a fast way to backup my stuff)

    Also is there a guide? This is my first time so do I need to reinstall the CFW?
    PS3 Slim w/ stock 160 GB HDD
    ReBug 3.55.1 (no OtherOS++ Support....for now)
    500 GB ext. hard drive-100 GB WBSF- 15 GB NTFS-Rest FAT32
    MultiMan w/ BDEMU-2

    Still learning! Check me out on XDA-Forums (UberMario)

    You can use a FAT32 formatted hdd plugged in via USB, and do it that way via multiman's file manager or comgenie's .. You can use FTP but it will be slow. Then afterwards you can just copy selective things back. Using the manual method many settings, and your installed packages and things will be lost.

    If your "old" hdd is less that 100gb, your only choice is to delete some stuff before running the official ps3 backup util. That is the best option as the PS3 will ensure nearly everything works as it was before, and it will even restore your backups and installed packages, homebrew or otherwise.

    I had to install my firmware again when I changed HDD's.. I was running kmeaw's.. then I went back to stock 3.55, then reinstalled kmew again.

    I am on ReBug 3.55.1 w/ 3.60 spoof and debug xmb. I looked in system settings and I couldn't find the Backup Utility. Only found Transfer Data and Format.

    Hey Ubermario, In the debug settings, use Debug HDD exhange utility, plug ur new hdd via usb, follow the steps, it will copy everything to your new drive. Then just exchange your drive, easy

    The only sad part is that I don't have a usb adapter for my internal HDD. All I have is an externall HDD.

    What sort of stuff do you want to save from your PS3? Game back ups and movie content? Back up/restore is painfully slow. It only pays to use that feature if you have some old dlc games and locked saves you want to keep and put on your new hard drive.

    +1 for saving to a FAT32 external the old fashioned way

    Is it a 2.5inch laptop external? The smaller kind without an extra power supply. You can use this, just copy and remove the case when your done, thats exactly what i've done several times since it's easier to buy an external hdd where I live

    Mostly trophies but I figured out a way to do that (I know you can't backup to hard drive) and some internal games but I can just re-rip those.

    I'll just make a quick backup of my saves and homebrew and just switch out I guess.
