    Hi all.
i got a pic18fusb with a pic18f4550 processor a couple of days ago. i programed it about 3 times and it worked very well, no problems at all. today, i removed the stick out of the ps3 usb port and preset the button on the stick, the one that gets the stick in the programing state so you can set the hex on in, i did all this without connecting it to any usb ports... so i just held it in my hand and preset the button. after this i pluged it back in the ps3 port and started the console and waited for the hack to boot, but it dident. the way it should have worked was that the light flickerd for a sec or 2 and after it was solid color.... but now it just keeped flickering, and the hacks dident boot. so i shut downed my ps3 and tried again, thinking that i dident press the eject button after the power button, but this time the light on the stick dident come on at all. at this point a got it out and tried it in a pc usb port and still, the light dident come on. so, did i mess up the bootloader on the stick??? cuz i heared that these sticks have some problems whit the bootloader, but i understood that this bug is made when you go in the ps3 recovery mode or safe mode. am i using it rong??
hope to hear an answer from you all. tnx and good luck to all.
    cya!!!

Hold on to the button and then connect it to a USB port on your PC. Then run whatever program you used to flash the hex files. I'm personally using PICKit 2 programmer and also have a PIC18F4550.

hi. tnx for the answer. so do i actually need a PICKit programmer to get this to work or can i just use the program that i use to flash the hex, like Microchip BootLoader USB HID v2.6b????

yeah, so i tried with the Microchip BootLoader USB HID v2.6b the way you told me, and it didn't work. i think you were referring to a PICKit. i don't have that. so i need to replace the bootloader on the stick. i don't have the money for a PICKit... so yeah... another stick then. thx anyway.

what you do with pic solutions is hold a bootloader button and whilst its held plug it into the pc. when you do this the pic gets recognized as a different device (rather than a hub). you can then reflash the payload on the chip.

Have a read of the illness/skyrunner threads, lots of info there. Basically if you have a bootloader, you dont need an external programmer. if you want to replace the bootloader you need a programmer.

that's what i did... i held the bootloader button down and pluged it into the pc but my pc didn't recognize it. the led light doesn't light up at all. didn't start a driver instalation like it did the first time i pluged it in and worked fine. now it just doesn't recognize it at all. i don't know what to do... i'm reading the threads that you suggested. but i don't realy know what to do. it is a comercial stick so i have a bootloader on it. if it still works, i don't know. i'll keep reading the threads and hope to find an answer, or mabey i'll ask one of the people you just mentioned. tnx.
