Get Showtime media player for PS3, it runs MKV and has for awhile.

Yea for at least two maybe three months now. I stream mkv files over wifi without a single hiccup. Sweet app we can hold over xbox fanboys.

You can play MKV on 360's without even modifying it. That's usually how I watch my MKV videos.

Microsoft has a limit on usb drive size that makes it annoying to have to copy the files back and forth to the usb drive. Last I checked it was 16gb and a limit of 2 at a time. Ps3 has no limit (or at least 1tb limit) therefore Showtime has no limit. The only advantage x360 might have is if the drive is formated anything other than fat32 and you can use bigger than 4gb files on external.

I thought Showtime did not output 5.1 audio, is that still correct?

I thought hardly anyone used Showtime to playback mkv's as it doesn't work well at all with 1080p content......unless it's been updated recently and slipped under everyone's radar ?!

Just use mkv2vob for the time being.

I've never had a problem with a mkv with any version of showtime that included the cell decoder. But in all fairness my collection was "designed" to work on the xbox (xbmc) so my collection of hd mkv is under 20 movies and 30 tv show episodes which isn't even 2% of my collection.

(in edit I have 1 "collection" yet it shows up twice)

While you're right about part of it, while the 360 does have a 16GB limit, this is only for 360 content exclusively. You can't play MKV via flashdrive anyways but as the op said, over a network, which you can do on 360, as long as the source streaming has a decoder/encoder for streaming. The 360 can support well over 16GB when it comes to just using a FAT32 format. Don't mean to thread hijack but it's all in a guide I made here. I have my PS3, 360, Music, Videos all on one FAT32 partition that is over 100GB and it all works from one device to the next flawlessly. (If the mods don't like me site linking, feel free to remove the link.

And what resolution are they, 720 or 1080p ? What size are they ?
