    Hello!

I want to try the new Open Backup manager with patch support for problem games such as SFIV and f1-10... but i will need to update my board's firmware (PSGroove variant) to enble "peek/poke" commands that are required....... but--->

What HEX should i update with?

I asked the ebay seller what too look out for when i need to update, and this is the info given,...

"The board runs psgroopic hex files compiled for a pic18f4550 or 18f2550 with a bootloader with an offset of 0x800"

To my "non tech" self, that sounds like greek to me......

can anyone point me in the direction of the correct hex to flash my board with?

    Many THANKS!

I'm about to update mine to be able to play the very same game. You'll need the same hex as me:

I haven't tried that, it would be awesome if it worked for everyone though. Will do away for the need of and confusion due to multiple .hexs.

    Hi
I reckon we must have bought off the same guy, I got this the other day when asking about it

"you need psgroopic which is compiled for a 4550 or 2550 pic with a bootloader with an offset of 0x800"

asked some more and got this!

"You need a hex for a pic18f4550 or 18f2550 - it needs to be compiled for the MCHPUSB bootloader"

Just to warn you incase you dont know,if you put wrong hex on to this PIC there is no way to put another one on without a PIC programmer,Im being very careful as I dont want to have to buy another or learn about PIC programmers! I also have minimus board so not so bad for me but if this PIC was my only jailbreak device I wouldnt be so quick to try other Hex files.I read on an other site about someone basically bricking thier dongle due to incorrect hex with wrong bootloader or no bootloader, It will still work but It wont be upgradeable after that.I want a updated hex for this too so if you have any luck and its still upgradeable afterwards let me know here, thanks

yes, if you flash a wrong hex(wrong bootloader) to a USB PIC you will need an external hardware programmer,As far as I can make out this is becuase the software needed to interface with
USB socket is part of the hex file.As this PIC board does not have a removable chip I think it would become useless i(ie bricked) if a wrong hex and bootloader if flashed.Im still not sure myself which files to use so waiting like yourself for some more info.also that link you posted is dead for ages, I asked the ebay seller if it was deleted if there was a new version out but got no reply.I also have a minimus avr and these are much better and easier to work with, i would recommend getting one if you want to keep up with all the latest psgroove updates, the PIC versions are not as user friendly IMHO

Im going to try modify the original hex file from download to support newer payloads, If I only modify psgroove part of hex and leave bootloader untouched I should be ok,if I have any luck I will post here but keep trying else where too as I may not be able

I thought the bootloader is always possible to activate. So a wrong .hex can't brick your chip?
