Only Logic Board Connected
Only Logic Board Connected –
I friend of mine has been asking me about a launch model ps3 that he has. The logic board works, there is just some mechanical parts in the blu-ray drive that need to be replaced. At the moment he has just the logic board connected (the original one, paired to the machine), the rest of the blu-ray drive is removed pending arrival of the new parts.
Some games work fine discless, but others that are confirmed to work discless, will boot up, screen will flicker, than will return to XMB. The majority of games have this behavior, actually. Are there additional checks besides just the logic board that is causing this behavior, or could it be another issue? Later tonight I'm going to go try various things with it, but if anyone has any information about this it'd be great so I can narrow this down. A working blu-ray drive is going to be put in within a week or two, but I'm still curious on behavior with only logic board connected.
This is on KMEAW 3.55 with latest MultiMan, Rogero, and Iris Manager. I had him try multiple managers to see if it was a payload releated issue. He said LA Noire, Tiger Woods 2012, MLB The Show, for example work discless on my machine but not on his. I've ripped the games myself, and transfered them onto his ps3.
Out of curiosity I tried this on my own ps3.
With just main ribbon cable from ps3 to logic board (blue end) homebrew and backup managers would launch without issue. Some games would work disc-less, but majority would go back to XMB.
If you plug in any of the other ribbon cables, besides just the main blue one, ps3 would freeze upon loading any kind of homebrew. This doesn't change if theres 2, 3, 4, etc. plugged in.
Once you go ahead and plug every ribbon cable in for blu-ray drive and logic board, all homebrew will load successfully, and problem games I mentioned above will play without any issues. I'm currently playing LA Noire disc-less of my internal hard drive.
In other words, you cannot remove the entire blu-ray drive from the ps3 and leave just the logic board. All connectors from the blu-ray drive must be connected in order to maintain disc-less compatibility.
Hope this helps someone.
