What would it take to get online with the ps3 and it being hacked is it where it needs to send that it has the newest virsion of the firmware to the servers from software or is it something where it needs to be in the hex file or would being online require a custom firmware or something like that?

It would require changing the firmware reported by poking a new value into memory right before signin.

Ok so someone would have to find out what needs to be patched and patch it to go online.

Problem is, those in the know, aren't sharing. But, I'm pretty much for people jailbreaking not being able to get online. Sure, it's one thing to spoof required firmware version for new games, but people that JB can change values in their gamesaves, etc and there will be rampant cheating going on online. I've seen it in the past on other game consoles, and I really don't want to see it here. It makes it so you don't want to play anything online anymore. If you want to play online, you should have a "clean" console.

I want to be able to go onto psn so that I can buy dlc and psn games as well as play with family who are deaf and that is how I comunicate with them over the ps3 but I dont want to loose the capability to use homebrew as I am hoping for a good media player for the ps3.
