Hi guys, i recently got a "refurbed" exchange PS3 from Sony to replace my rather fubar'd Slim PS3. But have ran into a few problems, the first being it has OFW 3.60 on it (not impressed)
It works how it should but I thought I would test a couple of things on it. Firstly I wanted to re-do the 3.60 FW install on it. Now through recovery mode it works fine but if I try to "update" via the XMB it just says "no applicable data found" even though I have the 3.60 PS3UPDAT.PUP in the correct location in X:\PS3\UPDATE ... The USB does work as I mentioned it will do it in recovery mode. I could do this on my old 3.55 even if I was re-installing 3.55.. I take sony jiggled with 3.60 so that via XMB you can only install firmware higher than what you currently have installed.
I also wanted to try service-mode, now before people flame i am fully AWARE that if you go into service mode on 3.56 you will get stuck but I wanted to see if you can get into it via 3.60. Anyhoo I dusted off my old HTC Tattoo phone (now with improved broken screen - bloody kids!) which has psfservicemod on it. Fired it up, selected service-mode. Connected up to my PS3, switched on at the wall, turned on PS3 and hit eject button. The screen went blank.. but stayed blank for a while (at least 4 odd minutes) but then it didn't turn off.. it just ended up booting normally. So once again I take sony jiggled with 3.60 so service mode is now not available.
I know that the lv2diag.selfs need to be modded & signed with 3.56/3.60 keys before it could be used to downgrade (if that day ever comes). But i thought service mode could be accessed via a dongle still?.
