OFW 2.01 to Rebug 4.x

Hi guys, little bit of a n00b question here but please bare with me.

My old PS3 was running rebug 4.x with no problems until it YLOD on me. I repaired it but then died again so i have written it off for now.

I managed to get my hands on a CECH-G02 untouched unit which is on OFW 2.01. I wanted to get this back up to rebug 4.x.

So, i wanted to ask a couple of questions on the best way to do this.

1. Can i go straight to REBUG 4.30.1 STANDARD? I have read somewhere that if you have never been on 3.55 you cant downgrade if you need to? With the ODE incoming i want to have this option up my sleeve if needed.
2. Should i do the OFW 3.55 -> KMEAW 3.55 -> REBUG 4.30.1 STANDARD?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

go from 2.01 to rebug 3.55.3 then to rebug 4.21, dont bother with ofw 3.55 or kmeaw

I see that there is rebug 3.55.4 - should i use this one instead of 3.55.3? Is there anything i need to do once on this (ie: patching etc like you used to have to do on kmeaw) before going to REBUG 4.30.1 STANDARD?

Do i need to QA flag it before going to 4.x? How about spkg sig check patched?

install OFW 3.55

then boot into recovery mode and install rebug 3.55.2

then boot back into recovery mode again and install any 4.30 CFW of your choice

I recommend rebug or rogero

Hmm ok so i am getting some pretty conflicting information here.

Are there benefits or drawbacks to either way suggested?

Ok here's what you do. All firmware updates should be done from recovery menu for the first time updater. Afterwards you can set up debug updates and use the XMB installer 100% safely

1) install 3.55 official
2) install 3.55 kmeaw or the current 3.55 Rebug (look on the main page)
3) qa flag your console (IMPORTANT)
4) install 4.30.1 Rebug (best choice) or Rogero 4.30 2.05

Just go straight to 3.55 debug and qa flag. Then to the 4.xx cfw of choice. Don't worry about all the bull shit steps everyone is telling you. Also don't worry about updating in recovery, it makes sfa difference.

What's bullshit is you telling him to go to a debug (dex) firmware. And doing the steps I posted will prevent problems with the wireless controller not working and other issues. I don't say things just to hear myself talk. They are said for a reason even if you can't understand them.

Thanks for everyones' feedback. These are the steps i followed to go from OFW 2.01 to rebug 4.30:

1. Install OFW 3.55 via normal update method. Try as i might i couldn't get into the recovery menu. Reading between the lines on the Sony site it appears that it wasnt even available prior to OFW 2.5.
2. Once on 3.55 OFW, went into recovery and installed rebug 3.55.4
3. flagged QA
4. Upgraded to rebug 4.30.1
5. Profit

All seems to be ok thus far. Having a few issues with PlayTV not installing some of the web TV services icons but i am working through that (doubt its a firmware issue).

Also, Rebug 4.30.1 will not keep the Media Servers option "enabled", it resets to disabled on every restart. I have a funny feeling this is a common issue.
