I live in england and I bought a Launch USA PS3, because getting it with a HDMI cable, extra controller, 3 games and a 120GB hard drive PLUS importing it was the same price as buying JUST a console over here in england.

Now, a few answers. HDMI will work fine. The USA PS3 runs in 480i, 720i/p, 1080i/p. You may have problems with PAL games downloaded from PSN. Just make sure your PS3 is set to auto-detect for the TV and they will work (my USA one does... or did before I JB'ed it).
You will not be able to play your DVD's. You cannot region-hack the PS3 at this time. So if you want to use it as a DVD and Blu-Ray player, you'll have to import your discs from the USA. Also, if you stream media from your PC to the PS3, it must be in NTSC format (standard definition only) or the PS3 will not play it (or at least mine didn't). HDMI content streamed to the PS3 is fine.
