Heh, edited my original message so it's less confusing. I can't get burned backups to run, but I can get backups stored on the hard drive to run.

you might not be able to get the dvd to boot but this does help with something. some games out htere dont work without the original disc in the system(fear 2)

this works with them an dmost other games using the rdx_manager

now all tha tneeds to happen is a choice between direct boot using backup manger or boot to xmb then auto boot of game(to solve the burned dvd problem booting from xmb)

now in stead of having to have a ps3 game inside you can use a 25 cent dvd to load you backups off usb/internal so you know there will be no damage done to your disc.

also i compared an eboot.bin from the files ripped from bm and the files burned on dvd nothing is wron gwith the eboot.bin

using a hex comparer there is no difference between files at all. this is just a backup manager issue and the way its detecting the eboot.bin files

Anybody try and hook up an external DVD drive to a jailbroken PS3, with the same file structure as the HDD folder structure?

Why can't a BD-ROM drive be hooked up with several games loaded up on a BD-R disc laid out like the hard drive... UDF supports >4GB files. The FTP Server can transfer files from the internal drive. Using an external BD-ROM means an original game disc can sit in the PS3's optical drive.

Can somebody at least test this?

Well that theory only works if the PS3 can see the drive correctly or it mimics a USB storage device. However if those are true, I can't see why not.
Although I am not sure what you would gain using this over a USB HDD... the big advantage of using the Disc would be faster load times and getting around the Fat32 limit.

It may be more important to get NTFS to work with BM.

what is the possibility of stripping most of the game content out of the game before burning it to disc and just leaving the eboot and other necessary files. This way if possible all games will fit into a 4.7 gig disc and backing up the game will still be possible. Gonna play around with this tonite if we can get the drive to believe it has the game in is it not then possible to update games this way. Most content would only be used when game is played. Eg god of war 3 plays from external drive but with errors becaust it doesnt copy over files over 4gig.

Try removing EVERYTHING BUT THE ***EBOOT.BIN*** of the backed up game from the hard drive, and see if that works.

It may be running content from the optical, and only loading the decrypted eboot.bin from the hard drive (for whatever reason).

    Just a thought.

It's pretty funny to see how easy it is to become a 'PS3 Hacker'. All the news sites (PS3News, PS3Hax, PS3-Hacks) were quick to get this up when it wasn't even properly tested, just announced by someone relatively unknown. If someone wants to get that name out there they can simply make a thread stating..

    - I'm porting 'Random Console' to PS3
    - I'm porting Doom to PS3
    - I'm beginning my analysis on 'PS3 System File'
    - I found <random hex entry in a bin file> it could lead to 'Crazy Feature'

and then follow up with, I'll need some testers soon and maybe some donations to keep my spirits up. Give or take an hour or two and it'll begin to propagate and appear on other sites.

Reminds me of the first guy that said he was going to port psfreedom to Android. First he said he had it, then asked for donations, then said it was frying all of his devices. Little did he know that XDA was all over it like stink on...well, ya know, and had already made working POCs that weren't frying peoples devices. It really doesn't take that much to take advantage of gullible people that want to hear what you have to say, even if it's not true. Queue politics......
