(NOT WORKING) "Play PS3 Backup Games from a DVD-R!" (NOT WORKING)

hrmm...well since I still had my coaster collection handy(lol!) I decided to try it with the rdx_manager instead. For those keeping score at home, I'm trying KOF XII burned on various media with both imgburn and nero.
At any rate, still no go. Got the eboot error as expected.
Also, I did try booting one of the HD with the copy inserted and while it attempted to boot, it nonetheless stalled at black screen, which as I understand from reading around, is not at all unusual at this point.
So, there's some more input, for what it's worth.

Wow guys I feel like such a noob...Yesterday I was in such a rush to test it out that I didn't check to see if I was loading from the disc, turns out I was actually playing from the hard drive. Now here's the thing though. Even though the burned disc is in the drive, I can still play all of my backups. I made a video to show you guys, so I can show you that it's real. I don't know what jamal is going to make a video about or show, but for the most part I'm in the same boat as everyone else. I can't get any of my backups to run. Sorry again to those who made coaster's testing this out...

So we got it! This is not working!

Dual-Layer does not work on the PS3 because the same as the PS2.

The layers are opposite in the recording, from a burner to pressed disc.

So for now only DVD-R (4.7gig) and BD-R (25gig) will work, until a new type of program like this one was written for the old-school PS2 days.

To refresh the memory of the new kids on the block, have never used or own even a PS2 game, here is part of the info, from the olden-days of the ToxicOS DL patcher:



Someone needs to come up with the same type of system now for the PS3, to able use DVD9 or BD-RE (50gig) discs.

most new burners set the book type automaticly to dvd-rom so the drive thinks its dvd-rom and not dvd-r , this might be the cause for it that it won't work for most people.

well ya the update will be saved but when u run the game from the hdd the game will not run it will give u a black screen , i think it z because of the update file it only work with game from the reader not a hardisk so i think we can edit the update to let it work but we never know time will tell

wrong, I have bought Burnout Paradise the PSN version, it got game updates and everything... I'm not a hacker but I trust that they will find out how it works for the PSN games then apply it to backups

No proof that this is working still, outside of 3 random people saying they got it to work... for all we know, they could have been loading the game off the hard drive like the guy above, especially considering the number of people that can't get it to work.

these managers need to have a added function where u can either load backup from xmb or direct with disc

so you dont have to switch from rdx or regular as some games u have to boot from xmb when u load them others u dont

eh still weird that the game loads with the burned game not a retail disc. this might lead to someting differnet who knows

and at one time i got the backup manager to actually read the name of the game instead of saying dev_bdvd idk how though as i havent gotten it to work since
