Can anyone take some time and explain exactly what I am doing when I create a NOR dump. I wanted to upgrade my PS3 kmeaw 3.55 to Rogero 4.30 v2, i have everything set except the safety precaution of making a NOR dump. I have tried to research, but all i can find is the same method I received from a fellow member, and information on downgrading with a flasher, which is still making this really confusing for me.
I was told this method of NOR dumping from a fellow member
* Create a dump of your NOR/NAND (use multiMAN to create a .NORBIN/.NANDBIN file - USB connected as /dev_usb000 required) - To dump flash: mmOS->Select any file->Open in HEX viewer->[SELECT]->[START]->DUMP LV2(NO)->DUMP LV1(NO)->DUMP FLASH(YES)
I have entered Multimans MMOS, created a .NORBIN on my extHDD under /dev_usb001,but I do not know what file I am supposed to pick. all of them? I thought the purpose was to make a back up of information that could help in case of a brick, but i do not understand exactly what i am supposed to be backing up. Furthermore I do not see the option nor know how open in hex viewer, is that a package i need to install. I am in way over my head here.
I understand how much of a noob i sound but if anyone can take some time to explain or if there is a step by step procedure for doing this that could help i would much appreciate it.
You should pick one with 16,384KB size, NORBIN. You're doing none other than insure yourself that you'll have your own valid dump, so that your console could be recovered no matter what. Keep it. Believe me or not, one day it'll come in handy. And back these days I saw pretty much fellows who'll throw whatever it cost for a single valid dump of their PS3, but no luck. So just remember, blank/corrupted flash - eternal permabrick.
Ok, so in case of a brick,I'll need a valid dump. So I am searching on my mmos and do not see anything around 16kb files. I am thinking I am supposed to dump the dev_flash files just not sure.
