    Hi,
I have currently a problem with my ps3 slim 2000 in 3.55. I have no hardware flasher and i have never opened it.
I found a weird bit in the vtrm of my 16mb nor flash. Look at the screen attached.
There is a "4" in the red square at 0x00EC1DD which is completely blocked, and because of this i have an unfiaxable red screen at the ps3 boot.

I tried to remove it by many ways, but no success:
-I tried the usual rsod fix which rebuild the vtrm (the pkg method and the lv2diag.self method of ps3devwiki), everytime the vtrm is correctly rebuilt but i kept this "4" at 0x00EC1DD .
-I tried to flash directly a correct dump of the flash without this "4" with jaicrab preloader 3.1 .
The funny fact is i can modify any bit of the nor flash except this one at 0x00EC1DD.
And i also can modify this 4 at 0x00EC1DD and replace it with 5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F, however i can not replace it with 1,2,3 and 0 the correct value.
-I finally installed other os++ to have a better access to the nor flash. I made several dump the "4" is still there.
I also used linux to directly modifiy the 4 in the flash, the results are really weird:
    I modified the "4" to "1" with "dd if=/dump.bin of=/dev/ps3nflasha seek=$((0xEC41D)) count=1 bs=16 on linux", it worked but 13 sec later, the 1 became a "5" !!!!
Then i made a loop to replace the "4" with "0" 100 times, the 0 was there but only for 3 minutes, then the "4" came back.

    Is the nor damaged ?

In fact a single bit in the nor flash prevent my ps3 to correctly boot, and because it is in the vtrm, saves, trophies, BD movies do not work.

Is there a way to fix this ? maybe a way to move the vtrm in an other region of the nor ?

I really want to know if i can fix it without replacing the nor.

Or is it possible to replace directly the nor ?

you can replace the NOR but you will have to find a junk mobo. an dyou will also need a flasher. you will dump your flash on the dead NOR, and then flash it to the new NOR. i have not ever heard of anyone doing this, as it may be cheaper to just find you another ps3. its not certain its your NOR thats bad...

i just checked some of the dumps i have saved from my downgrading service, and i cannot replicate the "40 04 12" problem.

i wonder what would happen if syscon went bad on a ps3...

    So no software solution ?

I can't just buy the same nor model, flash it with one of my dump and replace it ?
Or you think it is not a nor problem ?
