noobish question - can i install another CFW over Current? plus having major issues
noobish question - can i install another CFW over Current? plus having major issues –
Hey guys, so i have a quick question.
i originally had a ps3 3.41 and i was active for awhile up until 3.50 so i'm semi knowledgeable about the ps3 mod scene.
but i at that time i had to sell my ps3...
The other night i bought another ps3 recently that was already modded.
the guy i bought it from got it as a trade this doesn't know what firmware it has ect.
but it does have multi manager (an old one) i updated it recently and everything else on the ps3.
now some games don't work'
WWE AllStars - replaced eboot, updated when asked, installed update and data files on ps3 hdd, now when i try to load the game (with game another ps3 game in the ps3) it kicks me back to the ps3 almost as if it tries to load it but fails.
LA Noire - changed USA BLUSxxxx Version folder to the EU version numbers, then i replaced the sfo file, ran ep1004 bles00933 pkg and i get a black screen upon boot
Heavy Rain - updated the required 1.0+ GB update upon boot, then the second time i booted it gave me black screen.. tried 2 version USA and EU Version.
so i'm thinking maybe i should just update this to the latest CFW (which would you guys suggest?) and maybe some of these problems would be fixed.
can i apply any CFW update over whats already on there? (i have no idea what is on there currently) or do i need to do something special?
update to 3.55 ofw then to 3.55 kmeaw (or any cfw)
If the games are on internal then you should probably do a backup just in case
Thanks for the help.
I'm already on 3.55
Not sure if I'm on kmew
But I read with the latest rebug it fixes some black screen games
I don't think it's a FW problem. Do you know that not every backup game work in the same way. Some games (a great number) require a Dummy Disc in the Drive. Some require to be run from Internal Drive, some require the BD Mirror option to be set in MM. etc. etc.
Here are a few suggestions to try
1) For LA Noire , try enabling the BD Mirror option in MM (Recent releases) for the first Install. After Installation, before running the game, disable back the BD Mirror Option.
2) For Heavy Rain, try copying the Game to Internal Drive first and then Install. After Installation, you can continue to run from Internal or transfer the Game back to External and run it from there.
It's also Best to insert a Disc (any Game) into the Drive and leave it there for Maximum compatibility for many games.
i'm currently using a Tiger Woods PS3 game in my system (always)

should i always run BD Mirror when first running a game?
i should of also mentioned that i'm not using any external HDDs so everything i do is internal.
i think i'm just gonna buy heavy rain. its like 20 bucks as a greatest hits i think...
can you guys confirm if, when asked to do an update... that i should update?
or should i not update?
i ask this because some game 'fixes' require me to do a manual update with a package before running the game
are these manual update packed that i install patches? and if they are, would a new game update require me to "re-patch"
or are game updates safe to do?
Since you only have an Internal Drive, BD-Mirror option does not apply to you. It is an Option for running certain games that doesn't work on Internal (Black Screen Games) but can be run from External with that Option Enabled.
Have you just started using MM ? Surprised you didn't even know MM has many Options for setting different combinations for different Games.
About Updates, some updates require you to use New FW in order to work. If you do an update make sure it is still compitable with your FW version 3.41/3.55.
(About the sfo file you replaced for LA Noire, are you sure it's the EU version, to match the EU Patch you installed. Just changing the Folder Name does nothing, it's the sfo file that's important. Also make sure the BIG file (>4GB)has been copied properly to the Internal.
