Noob help to jailbreak PS3

Hi everyone I am after a little bit of help. I want to jailbreak my PS3 would love to start putting some home-brew on and back up some of my ps3 games most likely the ones I play the most.

Which is the best way to go about it should I buy a usb stick such as the PS3key or should I go for a development board? Depending on which one I should buy can someone give me a reliable website for said product.

I am on 3.40 firmware so I need to update to v3.41 correct? If so can I just download the 3.41 firmware onto a usb memory stick and install it?

What software is best to use to backup my games? Finally is it possible to update heavy rain with PS Move support?

If you can't provide me with URLs just names of software or hardware will do as Google is my friend

Edit 1: One more thing to add can I use a western digital my book studio 500gb for backups / homebrew as long as it is in the right format?

Edit 2: Can a mod change the title from tp to "to"

yes PS3Key is good and its easy to update
and you should update it to 3.41
use back manager to back your games to internal hdd or external hdd
for heavy rain search

1: If you want a relatively easy solution, get a Maximus, Minimus or PS3key, you won't find many development boards around these days. Any of these 3 products are solid

2: You can update via usb stick. If you go to Sony's website they have instructions on how to update via usb stick. It's easy.

3: There are a few different versions of Backup Managers floating around. some work with a disc others without, try them all and see what works best for you

4: You can use the hard drive externally as long as it is formatted FAT32

5: If you edit your post and go into advanced mode, you can change the title yourself

um i cant help with everything but heres the update file i recommend you download it now and save it so you have it right away when you need it when trasfering it to the ps3 put it in any usb storage device make a folder named PS3 then inside the ps3 folder make a folder named UPDATE put the file you download there

Well I am currently updating to v3.41 slowly getting there

Now i need a chip really don't mind which one i get but i would like to order one today where they are instock, anyone know a good retailor for the UK? (are suppliers URLS allowed?)

Next i will look into PSgroove / freedom and anything else once that is sorted maybe open manager

I am about to finish downloading the heavy rain patch once it is downloaded to my pc can I install the patch to the PS3 without needing a jailbreak? I have a usb already formatted so I was hoping i can just transfer the file onto the ps3 and install it?
